May 4. 2008

Mission Raceway got the day in for all the brackets (single event) as well as the CW Doorslammer series. A first time winner and and the r/u was also in the final for the first time. Two Washington competitors, Greg Anderson defeated Lloyd Flatum in the final round. The Mission site has all the bracket results.

In the NHRA , another John Force car is in the final round for the fourth consecutive race. This time it was rookie Mike Neff. Todd Hoerner losses a very close one to KJ in round one of Pro Stock. Both drivers run career bests ( KJ and TH) Final results from St. Louis are here.

Finally we are back on line. After 8 days of trying to get telus to hook up ADSL on the street where my new home is located in an older subdivision, they struggled with issues for a few days to get it right. Hopefully it will work at full capacity.

St. Louis NHRA results are here.

Lots to talk about including big news for TODD HOERNER who has qualiffied for the second straight NHRA event in Pro Stock. He sits well into the field this week at St. Louis in the #12 spot with a career best 6.635@ 207

"courtesy DRC".

12 6157 Todd Hoerner, Deer Park WA, '06 Stratus 6.634 207.75

He will race Kurt Johnson who went four hun quicker with a 6.598@209

Way to go Todd! Kick some today.

The track here in Mission will be a very busy place today, as the weather cleared and it looks to be a great day. The Canada Werst Doorslammers highlight the day and the race is sponsored by TCS Performance Products. Spargo will be very tough as he went an aweome 6.76@206.9 . His new ride is specatular. It will easily go into the low 6.60's and maybe even the 50's, all with an automatic.Chris Murphy is working out the bugs in his blown Camaro and had a real eye opener Friday during the test session. Pfister has the video.

Atlanta NHRA results from last weekend are here.

Ashley Force extends her point lead with a historic win in the nitro coupe class. She defeated her father in the final round at Atlanta.

Sunday gallery from Vegas is posted

April 13, 2008

Ashley Force takes the point lead in nitro Funny Car, with her second runner-up finish in a row. She is the first woman to lead in the class in history. Way to go Ashley.!

Great TAD rounds at Vegas and the Dallas Divisional, as the blown cars are definately going rounds. In the semis at Vegas, Shawn Cowie and Jim Whitely have an epic race, as Whitely prevails with a 5.34 to 5.37 side by side bout. The best ever finish for Cowie. Whitely unfortunately can not repeat in the final round as he blows the tires off and first time winner Jeff Isbell who switched to an A/Fueler prevails. Jay Payne is looking strong in TAFC with a win over Von Smith. In Comp, Jim Marshall looks to be one of the top B/AA competitors in the class with a strong .61 under qualifying effort, he went to round two. All the rest of the results are here.

On another note, Congrat's to the Hugh Ridley team in Vegas, with Gary Ormsby Jr. in the seat. The BC based TAD team is working out their stuff, and qualified. The team ran a career best 5.57 in round one. Look for them to run in the 5.40's at Mission. Way to go to good buddy Hugh Ridley!

In Dallas, Darvin Martinets in the ex- Guy Kelly (and Mark Hentges prior to that) went a career best 5.34 only to bow out to another guy with a career best, Aaron Tatum in his and Joe Monden's A/fueler, a solid 5.29. While there is not absolute parity in the class the top 6-8 blown cars in the class, will run low 30's and high 20's in average conditions or better.

The Mission Divisional with no less than 3 top BAD's (Cowie, Severance, Bayer, and possibly Whitely) could see the first 5.20 pass by a BAD in divisional competition in a long long time.

Judee Shoemaker's interview after John's fateful run Saturday

March 9, 2008

Unbelievably sad news in the world of Drag Racing as good friend and West Coast Drag Racing legend John Shoemaker died today at Bakersfield's March Meet after a top end crash during the second qualifier. He was a great fiend to SpeedZone and both he and wife Judee always were happy to chat about just about anything. My daughter Shelby got a chance to sit in John's gorgeous new "American Eagle" Top Fueler last year at Mission. He will be greatly missed. Heart felt wishes go out to Judee. RIP John!!!

January 11, 2008

Unfortunately more potential bad news for in the drag racing world. This one affects Canadian racers and fans and is perhaps the biggest blow in history. Remember the leaded fuel issues 15 years ago? Well it is back and the deadline has now passed. Technically the ban is now in place (Jan 1, 2008). This is something that all of us should have been paying attention to more diligently. They are making a decision in the next month whether or not to expend the extention for only one more year. What can we do, write the government. More on this potentially shattering news here. For as much as this will affect drag racing in my home town of Mission, Three major National events (Edmonton Grand Bend and Toronto) with millions of dollars of tourist revenue are in jeopardy, as well as the sport we all love here in Canada.

January 10, 2008

NHRA listened to the racers and fans and made a number of changes to the "Countdown to the Championship". Here is the release.

A couple of releases for teams heading into the 08 season.

The Pro Mod calendar samples are now posted

Larry at HH has all the Division 6 winners from the banquet last weekend (did not get a release from the Div 6 office, nor is it posted on their web site?????). Included was Shawn Cowie as the Division 6 "Rod Hoerner Memorial Rookie of the year" (well deserved), MRP winning the Division 6 "Track of the year" and the 'Plex winning the "Most improved track". Another surprise announcement was the Plex going out and improving themselves even more with the purchase, the first ever in Canada, of the Squeegie Machine, a self propelled track cleaner for oil downs. I have seen it in action at NHRA and IHRA national events and it flat out works. Kudo's to the management at the New and Improved Plex. Kudo's to MRP for their 8th track of the year award as well. Was hoping they would get the TBA divisional for all their hard work, but Acton did in fact get their race back. Maybe we should have seven races again.

Terry Spargo's new ride is revealed.

It is a Rick Jones 2004 Chevy Cobalt. It will house a 813 in Sonny Leonard wedge that puts out close to 1500 hp. The car has all the exotic chassis stuff including a top of the line computer system for engine and chassis readings. If all the ducks are in a row after preseason testing the car should run well into the 6's at over 200 mph.

November 5, 2007

The "Countdown" to the POWERade championship and the future of drag racing's largest sanctioning body is certainly been talked about over the last few weeks (Since Indy really).

One of the most well known web sites in Drag Racing and the site that gives the most current up to date news in both sanctioning bodies is Drag Race Central. I love what they do and most of the most totally agree with their great reporters. Larry Sullivan is one of the veterans of the site and certainly is not shy when it comes to his opinions. His thoughts on the countdown are perhaps the most damaging I have seen. On the popular message board Nitromater a thread was started on, "who got screwed by the countdown". Here are his comments on the countdown.

"We have a Top Fuel "Champion" who lost in the first round at more than half of the races in 2007 and lost in the first round in three of the four "Countdown to Four" races. He shouldn't have even been in the viewfinder. Bad system - I don't recall a weekend at the races when I hated being there more than I did last weekend - it was a farce".

Very strong words indeed. Will there be a change to the system? If there is, I hope they go to four races instead of two to determine the winner, plus have at least 10 cars make it to the countdown. And pay the top ten. Oh ya, under the old system, Robert Hight would have won, Rod Fuller won have won by a bunch, Greg Anderson would have won and only Matt Smith would have won under the old system.

Will Sullivan's comments have ramifications with DRC's contract.

The debate goes on.

November 4,2007

Unreal turn of events at Pomona today.

"I guess the Countdown did provide the drama is was supposed to".

The big question is, Will the mainstream media (or even ESPN itself) give it the props it deserves. I doubt it. It short, 'Hot" Rod Fuller losses in round one and Tony 'Shoe" comes all the way from fourth place to win the race and his fourth consecutive championship. Alan Johnson deserves to be the highest paid Crew Chief, "PERIOD". Robert Hight had a slim chance after Tony Pedregon also goes out in round one. Unfortunately for Hight he needed the win and a nat'l record. He only got the win. Greg Anderson has the most surprising result on point leaders heading into the race, He is dead late in round one and Justin Humphreys take him out. He can only watch Jeggie win the title in round two and then win the race getting the biggest single day Pro Stock payout in History. Today was the first day all season that Jeg Coughlin held the point lead.

While I don't really give a crap about Pro Stock Motorcycle, what happened to Andrew Hines was only partly self inflicted, part of the drama was downright criminal. Sampey dives (so obvious after watching the show today) and Matt goes home in second place. The most controversial team of the last four or five races, the Rickie & Matthew Smith owned / Torco backed team after firing their team rider Saturday win the event and the title (Yes they were one of the strongest teams all year but to me the deal left a real sour taste in my mouth).

Here are all the winners: (TF) Tony Schumacher over Bob Vandergriff, (FC) Robert Hight over new short term (likely) team mate Phil Burkart Jr., (PS) Jeg Coughlin over Justin Humphreys. (PSM) Matt Smith over Chip Ellis, (TAD) Bill Reichert over Dunae Shields, (TAFC) Jay Payne over Von Smith, (Comp) Tom Mettler over Dean Carter, (Super Stock) Dan Fletcher over Mike Iacono,(Stock) Jody Lany over Toby Lang, (Super Comp) Shawn Langdon over Gary Stinnett, and Steve Parsons over Randy Balough(Super Gas).

In the Summit ET Finals, no Division six drivers made the finals. Champions are: (Super Pro) David Scigliuto. (Pro) Dennis Clark. (Sportsman) Greg Dreher. (Bike Sled) Michael Nash. Nash is the first ever repeat winner as he was the champions last year. He is a Division 4 competitor.

Full results and photos on Monday.

Pfister has all the results from the Vegas Street Super Nationals. Dal Sangha goes to the fourth round and losses a close one to eventual runner-up Jmmy Mock. Dal cuts "KILLER" lights all day long including two in the .00's His worst was a .012. Dale Moznik wins in Outlaw Street over a couple six second behemoths.

Dale Creasy goes out in round two but wins the Nitro FC title by a huge margin. Bruce Litton gets his first ever Top Fuel championship and wins the race as well. Was hoping for TJ Zizzo to win the championship, but he went out in round one, ending his Cinderella season. Mike Janis wins in Pro Mod but losses the championship by a round and a half. He missed out on the championship (Cannon Jr. is the champ) due to his decision in skipping the Edmonton event this year. (By attending all events a 41 pt. bonus is awarded). Sorry for the delay in posting results from the last weekend at MRP as well as the news of NHRA founder Wally Parks passing away. Go to the NHRA site for a Wally Parks tribute.

The John Force word at this moment is he will not be with the team at Richmond Virginia this weekend as driver, team leader nor cheerleader. His hopes to race at the end of the season are very doubtful as well. More on his recovery efforts are here.

From MRP the rain halted all the action as Saturday was halfway through completion. Track champions are posted on the MRP website. For the RJ Enterprises "Canada West Doorslammers" Dave Ridhardson earned his first series championship by "two" Points over Mike Bedsworth. The final points standings and weekend wrap-up for the CWDS is at their site.

Surprising news from the Eagle Motorplex is the Saturday event was rained out, and on Sunday they suffered through rain delays in the afternoon. They did finally get the race off Sunday though. Horsepower Heaven has the results and photos. Winners were: Darren Eby (Pro), Trevor Mathis (Sportsman), Vicki Strell (Super Pro), Geno Reda (SC), Dave Copeland (Bike/Sled) and Michael Karr (Jr). Don't know if the TCS Jacket portion of the weekend festivities was included in the Big Buck event, or if that race will be run at their final race of the year Oct 6th. Approx. 140 cars were on hand.

Dallas results, Force updates and final round photos are posted.

Milan results are posted.

Sept. 23, 2007

(Latest Update 8:00pm)

Dallas is complete.

The video on the crash shows in fact that John Force's car broke apart right in the lights as the left rear end of the car (likely the tire) blows apart and the car breaks in half right at Force's legs. He was in the back half of the car that came to rest just past the finish line. The rest of his car slid into Bernstien's and then hugged the guard rail down to the sand trap. Unbelievable footage on ESPN 2 for sure. His injuries appear to be all in his extremities, but are likely severe enough to keep him out for the duration of the season, which is unfortunate, since with the win in that round, he had moved into the top four in the chase.

Daughter Ashley who won her round elected not to compete in the semi finals. Too bad as she appeared to have the car to beat.

The winner in Funny Car was Tony Pedregon. He defeated brother Cruz in the final. Top Fuel was won by Larry Dixon. Pro Stock winner was four in a row Dave Connolly. Peggy Llewellyn won PS Motorcycle and secured a spot in the countdown. Tom Bayer took the TAD title. Two blown cars (Darvin Marvinets) were in the final in an corner of the NHRA dominated by the A/Fuelers. Von Smith defeated Cy Chesterman in the TAFC final. Division 6's Mark Faul won Stock. Other winners included Chuck Weir in Super Street, Shawn Carter in Super Gas, Terry Pearson in Super Stock, Danny Gruninger won Comp. Josh Hernandez won Pro Mod and also cliched the series title (BAE /AMS championship) by qualifying for the event on Saturday.

Crash between legends at Dallas!!

12:00 pacific Dallas update:

Just heard that John Force and Kenny Bernstein were involved in a top end crash in round two at Dallas. The "King" crossed into Force's lane and hit Force's Mustang, after that the both cars hit the wall hard. Bernstien got out of his car okay and Force was medically removed. He was conscious, alert and responding to the medical staff. Force was airlifted to hospital with undetermined ailments. He did get the win due to the disqualification to Bernstien. More later when we hear more. In other action at Dallas, lots of upsets, as Hight did not qualifiy and the other three in the top four went out in round one.

Full results and more updates on Force when we hear them.

Milan Michigan IHRA rain event completed.

Dale Cresy clinches the series championship in FC. He also wins the event. Rob Atchison wins Alky Funny Car. Dale Brand an ex IHRA competitor in the class came back trhis weekend after four years away. He ripped off the two quicxkest ets in IHRA Alcohol Funny car history. A 5.67 and then a 5.64 obliterated the old record. Scotty Cannon won in Top Fuel, Mike Janis won in Pro Mod and Jeff Dobbins won Pro Stock after getting into the race as an alternate.

Full results on Monday.

Was hoping to get results from the Plex Saturday night or Sunday morning but did not get results sent to me yet, results as soon as we hear them.

Don't forget this weekend is the huge Eagle Motorplex Big Buck TCS Fall Jacket event. $1000 bucks up for grabs in Sportsman (ya you read that right), Pro and Super Pro with double payouts in all the other bracket classes including Sports Compact.

The last big race of the year at Mission is the following weekend where the VP Fuels/ RJ Enterprises Canada West Doorslammers run a rare double header. As well, the other action includes the The Muffler Tech Fall Jacket race, King of the Hill, Super Combo, Stock/SS Combo, Super Shifter and more.

ET Finals at Woodburn

Team Mission comes close to sending another driver to the World Finals on Saturday as Phil Marvetz was looking to be the first repeat returnee to Pomona. He lost in the Sportsman final Saturday. Justin Gibson goes to the semi on Saturday and Jim Benhke goes to the 1/4's. Both driver were representing the "Plex. On Sunday the effort was there but not the final result either team was hoping for. Andy Closky has a chance for a semi final birth in Super Pro, but he broke out by .04 despite having .13 advantage at the tree. Was there a huge tail wind or something. He cut a bunch of mph at the finish line line still went under his dial. Jan Cook went to the bike final for the plex but lost to Leeland King. Jim Crawford had the best Team Mission showing with a round five final in Pro.

Full results when point totals are tallied.

At Mission Raceway, the Mega Ford Weekend is complete, and I would say the overall event was graded a C+. The turnout was less than the organizers hoped, but a lot of optimism around the event could make it an annual thing, that could grow into a respectable race. Car count was just under 100 on the track with the show n shine slightly less than 50. The feature cars (mostly pro mod types put on an okay show, with career best performances by both Keith Korecki and Mark Wolfe in the ex-Hurley Blakenly turbo'ed Thunderbird). He went an amazing 221 mph at 6.71 seconds. Korecki dropped his career best mark to a 6.64@ 212 mph. in his new wedge combination 714 cu.in GT 500. For the Nostalgia Super Stocks, "AKA" A/FX's, the very cool wheelstanding Ford Mustang driven by Dave Carman defeated David Joyner in the ex-Van Cleve Fairlane. Phil Featherstone the big name in the class, broke out against a wheelstanding Jim Isherwood in round two. Featherstone went career best #'s all weekend long and was very impressed by the facility.

Photos will be posted Monday night.

At Cayuga in Toronto, the IHRA event was rained out on Sunday. Elimination's will try and be completed Monday.

At Bakersfield, Shawn Cowie lost on a holeshot in round one. With the loss Tom Bayer is guaranteed the Division 6 TAD title. Joey Severance lost in the semis. Cody Perkins defeated Chris Demke in the final round.. In TAFC, Sean Bellemeur defeated Brett Williamson in the final. Only Oregon's Russ Parker was there representing Division 6. He lost in the semi finals both fields were extremely tough at the fabled historic race track. Surprised Shawn and Ron did not stay back East, as there was a much weaker race in Iowa. But the team does want to measure themselves against all the other tough blown hitters. They did a remarkable job in their first yerr. To finish in second place in the division as a rookie is very commendable.

Division 1 results are here.

Division 4 results are here.

Division 5 results are here.

Division 7 results are here.

In Super Comp, Calgary's Ken Mostowich came close to getting his biggest ever win. He went to the semis and unfortunately went . 002 red. Another Div 6 competitor Mark Faul went to the semi finals in Stock, but broke out after a .00 light, Photos will be posted Tuesday and Wednesday

August 26, 2007

Sunday evening:

Racing got underway at 1:30Pm today at MRP and was finished by 8:30pm. It included a great side by side 5.88 - 5.98 (both at 268 mph) by the WarHawk and NiteHawk Jet Funny Cars. The Top Fuel final saw Troy Green defeat John Shoemaker under the lights. Both cars had to pedal their rides at the air was at maximum hp and the track was a cool 75 degrees. 500 feet of corrected air meant the power produced by the nitro beasts was a little too much. Green was low for the day with a 5.96 best. The final was 6.37 (207) to 8.84.

Garrett Richards was the Pro Street winner. He was a 6.70 machine all day but Rash Dhaliwal went low with a great 6.65 in rund one. Dal Sangha was top speed guru with a blazing 217 mph shot.

More info and photos on Monday.

Sunday Morning

Congrats to Shawn Cowie for the win at The Topeka Kansas Division 5 event. The win should but him in a solid second place in the Division 6 standings. Good to see a long road trip come out on the good side. Way to go Shawn Ron Bucky and the whole crew!!

Unfortunately on the local drag race scene, the weather was similar in the moisture department to Michigan with rains all day long. There was a two hour reprive in the morning and time trials were run for the bracket classes, and then the Jets made a 600 foot squirt that did not result in any time slips as both drivers left before the trwee was activated. What gives with that !!!!

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day. The Milan IHRA race has been rescheduled for the middle of September.

August 25, 2007

Drag Boats from August Georgia, final round results.

Weather is a bit iffy this morning but hopefully MRP gets a break and today's night of Fire goes off. Here is a Friday gallery from Mission's Street legal. This weekend's Pro Street shootout could be the best in years. Murray's finally out with his very hot looking Turbo'ed Vette. and Jay Syvertsen has a new Pro Street/Pro Mod, and its not the new one being built, it is Danny Rowe's old 37 Chevy. In all 6-8 PS will battle.

All the weekend results for Mission will be posted here. Again thanks to the Eagle Motorplex for sponsoring the event.

Milan MI (IHRA National was rained out Friday).

Three divisional events this weekend (Div 1, Div 3, Div 5). Two Div 6 alky cars are competing. Shawn Cowie is #1 so far at Topeka and Tom Bayer is #1 at Rising Sun. Will post results Sunday.

The Outlaw Pro Mods are at Norwalk this weekend. Results are posted.

August 23, 2007

The event coverage 'sponsorship' this weekend for the event at Mission is sold... to the Eagle Motorplex. They will be promoting their huge event in September, the "TCS Fall Jacket" race. It includes $1000 guaranteed payout to Super Pro, Pro and Sportsman and double winner payouts to Bike / Sled and Sports Compact. Thanks to Joe and the staff at the Plex. Their results from last weekend's Zimmer Wheaton is posted.

If there are any potential sponsors for this weekend's race coverage from Mission Raceway email me today or tomorrow. The price is right and the exposure you will get is worldwide. Approximately 20-25,000 viewers and 50-70,000 page views this weekend. John Shoemaker will be at Boston Pizza in Mission tonight to fire up his "American Eagle" Top Fuel Dragster. Here is the preview and event page for this weekend's race.

Click on the link here to see the huge bracket event at the 'Plex. All you bracket racers should make sure you take in this event.

The WC Coast Pro Mods Calgary results are posted. Joe Delehay wins the race and takes the point lead.

If your business is inerested in sponsoring coverage of any of the events Speedzone amgazine is a part of email us.

Reading final results (which finished yesterday) are posted.

A Reading gallery is here.

Billings final round results are posted.

August 19, 2007

Reading National event results are posted. Today only top fuel got first round oin as the rains hit.

Acton Montana Division 6 qualifying is complete. First round of TAD is finished and Shawn Cowie got by first round. He will face Cody Perkins in the semis. The final round race between John Evanchuk and Dennis Taylor was completed Saturday night and it ended up to be a single, unfortunately for Evanchuk, as he was shut off at the starting line with a fluid leak.

At Seattle for the Bucky's "Nitro Ball", the prognosis does not look good, as weather just South is as grim as Vancouver's weather, It is supposed to brighten up later today though. We will wait and see.

August 17, 2007

The Reading National (NHRA) and the Acton Montana Divisional (Div 6) are up this weekend. Will have all the results throughout the weekend.

I am in Print Magazine publication mode for the next four days, so replies and postings may be a little slow.

A sad note this week was announcement that the legendary "Wall to Wall" wheelstander Richard Schroeder passed away August 13 after a short bout with cancer. He was hostpitlized in June at a hospice in Cleveland while traveling with his “Focus This” exhibition jet car. Funeral services are pending.

August 16, 2007

August 13, 2007

Next weekend at Pacific Raceway is Bucky Austin's Nitro Ball.

This one is very hot!!

Then in two weeks at MRP AA/FD's and Jets invade the lower mainland's track.

What a huge weekend in Drag Racing this past weekend!

The "Nightfire's" are complete. Local hitter Trevor Lowe takes out Dennis Radford in the Pro Mod final a classic nitrous vs blower final that was over early as Radford was late and rattled the tires sending Lowe to an easy victory. Radford was low man throughout qualifying with a track record 6.28 but was a bit lucky throughout eliminations', as he only ran in the 6.50's in the first two rounds. His 13 second time slip was seven seconds back of Lowe's 6.43. Trevor went low on Sunday with a 5.39 in round one.

Other winners included Howard Haight over Adam Sorokin in Top Fuel, and Gregg Uffens in AA/FA over Greg Daebelliehn. Uffens shattered the AA/FA mark at Firebird Saturday with an awesome 5.37/270 blast under the lights. All the resultsare here.

In the NHRA, John Force continued his blazing run as the end nears in the first half of the 2007 POWERade season. His win gives him a 17-3 round win record in the last five races. The countdown is down to one race and he has moved into fourth place after sitting in 14th the end of June. Bernstein, Coughlin and Hines were the other winners on the pro Side. Spencer Massey and Frank Manzo were the TA winners. All the results are here.

In the IHRA, every working man's hero Bobby Lagana won Top Fuel, Dale Creasy is walking away with TF Funny Car as he extended his lead to over 200 points in the nitro coupe class. Mike Janis won Pro Mod, Mark Thomas won Alky Funny Car and Frank Gugliotta won PS. All the results are here.

At MRP, the Import Race was completed after a bit of a weather delay Sunday morning. Not as large a field as expected on the first weekend dedicated solely to the import contingent. Will this become an annual event at MRP, it is hard to say. A suggestion I would make is to double up on a couple of the specialty events on the same weekend. The Mega Ford weekend coming up in September will likely see a similar car count and both events including the track could benefit from doing their event simultaneously. The advertising and promotion could still be done completely separately giving their sponsors the same bang for the buck, but the spectator count could be doubled, and even if both events got 150 cars each there is plenty of room in the pits. MRP has two great separate pit areas (one for each event) that could be utilized. Food for thought for sure. The Mission site will have the resutls posted soon.

August 11, 2007

Brainerd Lucas Oil Nationals results are posted.

We're back online after an excruciating four days without the 'net, and firstly the next three weekend here in Div 6 are nostalgia dreams relived.

This weekend at Boise, its their annual "Pepsi" Nightfire Nationals. Click here for all the action.

This weekend at MRP Imports abound with three days of the little cars that can. Check out their site for more info.

Brainerd 's National event is up in the NHRA and the IHRA's Epping event is also on this weekend.

Will have results from both those races later today or tomorrow. For now I am off to the track to see the FWD guys invade MRP.

August 5, 2007

Sonoma is complete, and Division sixes Ken Kraus goes to his first final of the year. He leaves too early (winner Von Smith) but still proves the Renegade team is now one of the forces on the West Coast. Morgan Lucas blitz's the track record with a great 5.16 to defeat Jim Whitely who went 5.30. Div. 6's Ken Heard wins in Super Gas.

Martin's IHRA national event was rained out today after two rounds of competition today. Will be completed Monday.

August 4,2007

Sonoma Divisional coverage is here.

Congrats to TAFC driver Don Hudson for his career best lap Friday. A great 5.609/255 put him #1 on Friday. It kept him in the top half after Saturday's final session. He ended up in the #2 spot. The Renegade Racing TAFC team also posted best #'s with a 5.635/255 lap. Ken Kraus sits #4 heaing into elims.

Brian Hough made the field (#3, 5.610), but Clint Thompson could not hit the 5.675 bump spot. In TAD, one Div 6 teams made the field and it was none other than SHawm COwie He is #4 with a solid 5.367. Mike and Brandon Johnson failed to make the 5.44 cut ( a 5.481 was their best).

Bob Marshall's 7.145 was his best effort this weekend. He went out in round one.

IHRA Martin event coverage is posted

Canada's Kenny Lang won the Pro Mod Shootout and a huge $20,000 paycheck. He sits #6. Carl Spieirng is #4.

Not alot of updates over the next week as the SpeedZone Family is moving four blocks from its current location. The internet connection will be up at our new location August 11, and the current one will be shut down August 7. Will do as much as possible in the next three days.

An update on the Kate Harker TAD crash at Sonoma. Kate was releasd in the afternoon Sunday and did return to the track. Hopefully Tom, KAte and the team are back out soon.

July 29, 2007

Sonoma wrap-up today with John Force looking like he has turned the corner. He gets his second win in four races and moved into sseventh place. Anderson gets his 50th win. Shoe takes out the perennial bridesmaid Vandergriff.

To the horror and astonishment of all TAD fans, the Tom Conway owned and tuned TAD driven by rookie female driver Kate Harker goes into a powerstand and does an blow over pirouette style (ala Shelly Howard). Luckily Harker was released from Hospital basically unscathed. What are the odds?????????

Duane Shields gets the TAD win. Bayer had a good chance at this event running a career best in round two (a 5.30) but a 5.27 by Harker took him out. Jay Payne 5.50's them to death in TAFC and looks to be a legitimate thorn in Manzo's side. Brad Plourd repeats in Super Stock. Click here for the rest of the Sonoma story.

Mission Raceway gets underway after an hour and a half rain delay this morning, and suffers through numerous oil downs to get their Loafers event completed by 7:45 pm. It was an awesome event overall (sans the oil downs). The Gasser results are here. The rest of the winners are posted here. The Gasser prtion has photos posted and the rest of the photos will be up Monday.

Don Hudson's Racing web site is updated.

Sonoma's Autolite Nationals coverage is here. (Top Alcohol Team Press releases are included). What a strong day one at Sonoma, a lot different that last weekend at Seattle. The 10:00pm curfew did get hit though, as Alan Bradshaw booms it big time, forcing an early end. 16 dragsters were set to shred the track records, but could only watch in dismay as the cleanup took too long.

On a very important note, due to the mis-printing issues of the latest SpeedZone Magazine (which was out at the track on the weekend, the entire magazine is being reprinted. It will be completed by Thursday or Friday and all our advetisers will have them at their shops starting on the weekend. We do apologise for the lousy quality of printing of the copies we handed out for free this weekend, but the printer has taken 95% responsibility for the issues and is making amends. While we have never said we are perfect, the quality of the photos in both black and white and color as well as the clarity of the photos and ads have always been good we were embarrassed by the final product.

July 15, 2007

The little ol' record breaking drag strip north of the 49th, did it again today when the Lucas Oil National Open at MRP completed the first ever Nostalgia (Nitro) Funny Car Assoc. points race. The first ever side by side 5 second race occurred in Round one, and then Terry Capp who became the first ever driver to run in the 5.80's, when he and the Jenner/ Leong tuned Bubble-Up Trans am ripped off a jaw dropping 5.85//249 to defeat a game 6.10 by Mike Savage. A major oil down in the TA Shoot-out final when Ed Verenka broke the rear end ending the days festivities with eight - ten finals still to be run. All the results and photos will be posted Monday. I will be busy next week as the new issue of SpeedZone's print magazine Out at the track this morning) will have to be completely reprinted as a couple major press issues occurred. Check back Monday. Shawn Cowie won the flintstone mobile TA final when both he and Roger Bateman spit the belt off at 280 feet. Cowie had more momentum and got his second Wally in a row.

Other final rounds completed included Top Fuel Harley (Steve Dorn defeating Rob Smith in what was possibly the first ever side by side 6.50 final round), Pro Street (Coin flip which Rash Dhaliwal won over Garrett Richards), 'Ace Manufacturing' Pro Funny Car had Darrell Webb defeat Tim Boychuk in a close final round. Outlaw Street upset winner winner was Bryan McDonald over Dale Moznik. Real Street winner was Kieth Vahle, Stock Super Stock combo winner was Rod Stultz, Super pro winner was Curtis Munson, Pro victor was Ted Miller Sportsman champ was Brad Porcello, Mile Hauer won Motorcycle and Sydney winner was Sydney.

Check back tomorrow

July 14, 2007

Mission's Open had all the markings of one of the best Open's is recent memory, but unfortunately a couple substancial oil downs in the evening cut short the major portion of the evening show. The Top Alcohol, Nitro Harleys, Injexted Nitro Dragsters and the main attraction, the Nitro Funny Cars did not complete their final qualifiers due to an 11 o'clock curfew. Not sure what will happen this morning with the feature cars, as far as getting their final hit.

Overall it was a pretty
