June 19, 2004 Final qualifying from Englishtown: In a hot and muggy Englishtown New Jersey, the chance of a record field ended last year with a spring event. This year's race, which is a month than in the past, saw qualifying run in 80-90 degree temps with high humidity and corrected air over 2000 feet. The leader after final qualifying is Ashley Force as the Darien tuned car seems to have found its stride in mid season she ran a last season 5.35/265 to sit almoat a tenth ahead of the next closest driver, Randy Meyer. 00Winner: Mitch Myers The weather affected the start of elimination's at Woodburn on Sunday and the race did not start until around 2:00pm, much like Mission four weeks ago. Everyone expected big things on Sunday after the incredible qualifying efforts put forth by all the teams. But who would have thought that the #8 qualifier (Kim Parker) would take out a 5.20 car (Morgan Lucas) in round one? Such is drag racing and it is much better to be lucky than good anyway. Mark Hentges Mitch Myers and Don Hudson all won as well setting up very interesting semi finals. The upsets kept on coming on the Parker side when Kim defeated Mark Hentges, after Hentges spit off the blower belt at half track. In the other semi, Don Hudson tried gamely to take out the higher powered A/Fuel car of Mitch Myers but that car hit on all eight and ran low et of the weekend and the quickest pass in Div. 6 history with a very stout 5.260/269.05. Could Kim continue here upset streak in the final round against Myers? No, it wasn't to be, as Myers almost repeated his earlier run with a 5.266/ 266.82 lap to easily dispel Kim's slowing 5.876/237. A very good job by the self funded Flansberg/Parker team. I'm sure the crowd was rooting hard for the underdog. With the win Myers asserts himself as one of the favorites to win the championship this season. He is the first guy to get four wins this year in a season that has the appearance of it not being a full pull year. The divisionals will be the deciding factor for the A/Fuelers as to whether or not they can adapt to all the different divisional tracks and the conditions that are thrown at them. This weekend the other divisional event at Division 4's Cherokee County Motorsport Park was one of the marginal track in division four but it did not stop two A/Fuelers to dominate qualifying and one of them Ashley Force have close to 2/10ths on the field on her way to here first ever Wally. Ashley took out James Copeland 5.45 -5.68 in the final.

000000000000000000Winner: Jeff Bohr Columbus Pontiac Excitement Nationals........Jeff Bohr (below) gave the BAD's their second win at National events in 2004, went he went all the way from the #11 spot in the field and took out #1 qualifier Art Gallant in the final round. This was Bohr's first ever national event win, and it avenges the dominance that the A/Fuelers held over the weekend. The weather at most of the events this weekend was not overly hot, and the performance levels showed it, with very quick runs by the injected cars, and a couple of the top blown teams in competition. But even their bests were over a tenth back of the A/Fuelers. Here is the ladder and eliminations:

June 13, 2004 Saturday final qualifying: Division 6: Woodburn Dragstrip Saturday at Woodburn reaffirmed my Friday recap that this was going to be a tough task just to get in the field this weekend. The only slight negative was the all time bump record for a Lucas Oil Event was not broken. But oh, it was close! After Saturday's first round the bump was held down by Kim Parker's 5.511. But the #7 spot was well below the 5.479 record, and Steve Federlin was in that spot with a 5.422. And with hitters such as Mike Cofini, Gary Anderson and Brandon Johnson still not in the field, the pundits were probably right in thinking the record would be broken. Well it wasn't and Kim's 5.511 held on to the bump spot. I for one am happy the hard working Parker clan, stayed in the field at here home track. But she has a tough task as she gets to face one of two 5.20 cars in the field. Morgan Lucas ran a division six best (for the second lap in a row) 5.290. Morgan Lucas and the Norm Grimes/Jim Rizzoli tuned team have shown that they will be a force to reckon with for the rest of this year and in 2005 and beyond (if they continue in the class). Mitch Myers sorted out his tune-up on Saturday to suit the track conditions in his A/Fuel rocket and ended up just a tick back of Lucas with a 5.298. Have two cars run in the 5.20's at a divisional event (I'll have to check it out)? Don Hudson is next in line with two 5.30 laps on Saturday including a 5.377. Mark (271mph turd) is #4 with a 5.381 and Gregg Lawrence is the last of the 5.30 cars, as he sit #5 with a 5.389. Joey Severance and Steve Federlin round out the rest of the field. If Sunday is anything like the first two days, the fans are in for one of the best weekends in history (sorry Mission and Larry Pfister, but there needs to be a vid called " June and the 'Burn rock" or something to that effect. 1 2 A/FD Morgan Lucas, 5.297 270.43

Woodburn Dragstrip Top Alcohol Dragster has for the past few years in Division 6 been THE strongest class in this and perhaps any division in North America. Many of the top Div. 7 cars regularly compete here because the track are good and they get treated well. They also know that in order to be the best they have to beat the best, and the contingent from this division has been the benchmark. Mark Hentges, Brandon Johnson, Joey Severance, Mike Cofini, Steve Federlin, Duane Shields (for many seasons), Rick Santos (for many years as well), Mitch Myers, Gregg Lawrence, Gary Anderson and Greg Tacke (in the present) have been or are regulars in the "Land of the Leaders". This year looks to be one of the toughest seasons yet. With Myers dominating National events (he can't find his way at divisionals though, and has been quick to blame everything but his team for not adapting to div tracks) so far this year, and blown teams like Hentges, Severance and Federlin scaring the bejesus out of every competitor out there with their presence at divisionals and nationals, the proof is in the competitors. Woodburn has no less than 10 of the 14 cars on the property that have gone 5.45 or quicker. 13 of them have been 5.65 or better. And qualifying after one round proves that it will be tough. The bump is already 5.539 and three of the to guns are not in the field. The bump could and should beat the best ever 8 car div record of 5.479 set in Las Vegas in 2002. Morgan Lucas leads with a Division 6 record setting 5.309/270 lap that put him .08 ahead of #2 Mark Hentges (5.381). Gregg Lawrence the "King of Woodburn" based on his two wins in the last two years there, is #3 with a 5.389. Gary Anderson is the anchor so far with his 5.539 which was his first lap of the season. Qualifying resumes today with two sessions at 2 and 5 pm. TAD 1 2 A/FD Morgan Lucas, Riverside CA, Sarmento-BAE
