Mark Kidd of Twin Falls, Ida., and Bob Coulter of Las Vegas won overall points championships in the Super Pro and Pro classes during the three-day Las Vegas Bracket Nationals at The Strip at LVMS.

Kidd, driving a 2001 Undercover dragster, won the final round of Super Pro competition on Friday and Sunday night to walk off with $10,000. Paul Eddins won Saturday night's Super Pro finale to claim the $5,000 first prize.

Coulter, driving his familiar white 1964 Ford Falcon in the Pro class, won on Saturday night. Mark "Mr. Super Chevy" Meier, also of Las Vegas, won Sunday's Pro finale and Chris Jaggers of Middleton, Ida., claimed Friday's top honors. Coulter also won Friday's Run-for-the-Money contest.

Levi Burlile of Eagle, Ida., won the Street finals on Friday and Sunday. Michael Miller of N. Las Vegas singled in Saturday's Street finale after opponent John Irving was disqualified due to unsportsmanlike conduct.

Best Engineered Awards went to Chris Jaggers (Pro) and Jack Hewitt (Super Pro). Best Appearing Car Awards were earned by Steve Fabrizio (Pro) and Peter Costello (Super Pro). The Long Distance Award was claimed by Roger Rogalla, who towed his 1968 Camaro from Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the weekend's action.

Justin Lamb, a 16-year-old drag racer from Henderson, entered all three classes each day, driving a total of four vehicles in competition. Lamb's best finish was runner-up in the Street class on Friday night.

A total of 310 teams – from 11 states and two Canadian provinces – entered the high-stakes bracket event. Rain delayed the start of Sunday's program but it was completed by 6 p.m.

Racers and race fans donated a car full of non-perishable food items to The Strip's Thanksgiving food drive. Toys and a total of $751 in cash donations also were contributed for distribution to local causes.

Nov. 9, 2003 Sunday Eliminations for the Summit ET Finals.

No Division 6 car got the single in round one, so all had to earn their spot in the semi finals. Three racers from Division 6 earned a semi final berth including local Pro Standout John Korfiatis. Bike Race Greg Westling from Calgary was real late on the tree and gave up the ghost by the 1000 foot mark. John ("Special K") faced Div. 4's Glen Morphew and took the win over a red lighting Morphew to advance to the semis against Div. 2's Derek Putman. In the semi final round, Putman got a .012 holeshot on Johnnie "K", abut Johnnie caught him at the 1200 ft. mark and took too much stripe by .005 and broke out with a 11.455 on a 11.46 dial. Sooo Close!!!! Great effort Johnnie, all the Mission and Ashcroft racers and fans are proud of you.

In Super Pro Rod Langley from Boise got a first round win with a 7.208 on a 7.20 dial against Division 7's Bryan Downing. In the semi final, He took on Division 2's John Wooley, but like Korfiatis before him, he too broke out with a 7.184 (7.20 DI).

In Sportsman Division 6's Jerry Weber defeated last year's world champion Jerry Hefler with a great .040 light and a 14.673 on a 14.65 dial in. In round two his luck ran out, as he red lit with a -.036 light. Still a good showing for our division 6 guys.

Super Pro Winner was Lane Weeber over John Wooley. Weeber had a great .018 light and 8.794 on a 8.78 dial, while Wooley had a .023 light and ran a 9.913 on a 8.89 dial in. A .0149 margin of victory.

Pro Winner was Division 3's Mark Butler who went .050 green and ran a 10.313 on a 10.27 dial in. His victory was over Div. 2's Derek Putnam who was real late on the tree (.123) and broke out trying to catch Butler.

Sportsman winner was Div. 1's Vinnie Cicerale as his opponent Div. 3's Jeff Seither broke out by .005 on a 13.25 dial in. Both guys had .03 lights, but Seither took way to much stripe as Cicerale was13.115 off his 13.00 dial in.

Summit Bike winner was Divison 1's Brian Johnson over Div. 2's Ricky Cook. Johnson had a .023 light and ran 9.082 on a 9.10 dial in compared with a break out .048 light and a 9.247 on a 9.29 dial in.

Congratulations to all the competitors, especially Division 6 racers and local competitor John Korfiatis. You kept Mission Raceway's streak alive of having a representative for all four Summit finals.

See you all in 2004 at Mission Raceway for the Division 6 Summit ET finals.
