Sept. 14, 2004 Here are ET Finals Photo Gallerys. Jrs. High School. Sportsman. Bike/Sled. Pro. Super Pro. Team fun Woodburn takes home the series championship for the 11 time in Division six history............ but Portland makes it interesting on the final day.
Local Cory Thompson (North Central) runnerups to Jerry Gossette (Bremerton) in Pro Bracket and Tim Schillereff (Portland) win Super Pro over Loretta McCool (Woodburn) Here are the team championship final round results. (Pro and Super Pro were run today: Sportsman and Bike/sled were run on Sunday) Super Pro Sportsman Motorcycle/Snowmobile
Sept. 13, 2004 Woodburn dominates Sunday's racing. 30 available points remain.......... before they clinch there 11th team title in Division six ET finals history. Sunday, Sunday, Sunday turns into Monday, Monday, Monday (and maybe Tuesday if the weather stays the way it looks this morning). Super Pro and Pro are to be finished on Monday, as the night turns too cool for the higher horsepower cars. Sportsman winner in Sunday's race was Jody Lang (running for Madras) as he defeated Chris Brandt the LONE bright spot for "Team Mission". Mission played good sport on both Saturday and Sunday finishing well back in the points. By the end of Monday's finals I expect them to be around 9th. Eagle will end up 10th in my best estimation. While the final tally is not complete as there are 30 or so points left to be earned by the remaining competitors. Bike also got completed late Sunday night, and Woodburn's Roger wolff defeated last year's ROC rep., Greg Westling form Medicine Hat. The street bike had the big advantage Sunday night, as the cool weather was enough for Greg to spin his tire off the starting line and he slowed by over a tenth. The day started off strong for Woodburn, Bremerton and Firebird and by the end of round one, Woodburn had already mounted a four round lead and they did not relinquish it there the four rounds run. They had their lead up as high as 15 points for a while but getting into the fourth round, Portland started to make a move and got the lead down to 7 points. Then Woodburn got serious and by the end of Sunday, they were back to a ten point advantage. Hopefully, the event concludes on Monday and that there is still a chance for Portland or someone else to challenge the "Big Green Machine" for the title. A complete photo gallery for every class will be posted later Monday. Sportsman final round: Jody Lang "Team Madras"(right lane) .003rt. 14.053et, 94.53mph (14.02 d/i) def. Chris Brandt "Team Mission"(left lane) .053rt. 13.319 (13.30 d/i) 96.72 Bike/Sled final round Roger Wolff "Team Woodburn" (right lane) .078 10.840 123.66 (10.78 d/i) def. Greg Westling "Team Medicine Hat" (left lane) .152 rt 9.930 (9.79) 134.67 Sept. 12, 2004 I forgot to mention Josh Mellof as one of the bright spots on Saturday for "Team Mission" Josh Mellof had a good outing, as he went to the semi finals before a red light ended his day. He took out hitter Casey DePeel in the round of 8's. It is a surprise that Casey was allowed to run in elimination's, as I am sure he went under the 7.90 maximum allowed on two occasions in time trials. If it was not him that ran under on both ocassions, I apologise, but I remember the 7.80 in the first hit and was sure he went 7.87 after. That was a topic of discussion that officials were adamant about. How it got missed, I don't know. What a marathon (and great day for Woodburn) day at MRP for the ROC portion of the ET Finals. Can anyone stop the woodburn juggernaut at these and any ET finals. They took the Track Managers" Cup by over ten rounds on Saturday (the official score was something like 39 Woodburn - 27 for Firebird and Bremerton. Eagle had a great first half of day but slow drastically we they got down to the final three rounds and ended up fourth or fifth. Here are the final round results
Sportsman Sled/Bike High School Jr. Lightning Jr. Thunder "JR. King of the Hill" Derek Rager defeated Rockelle Pappel As for as the host track, Mission Raceway, well, let's just say that the home town pressure must have gotten to them. Race favorite, Martin Rachel went out first round in Super Pro, Jim Behnke went out first round in Super Pro as well. In Pro Bruce Flodin was first round fodder as was Chris Stone. In Sportsman, Chris Brandt was a surprise first round casualty. When all the top guns go out early, your day is going to be long. The lone three top hitters from Mission, Don Elgin (they guy you love to hate, and the one that Mission team members are justifiable reluctant to give accolades to) went the furthest, the semi finals. Hey Don, why aren't you even pitted with the rest of your team? Phil Marvetz went out in the 1/4's despite having 7/100's at the tree and Stu Keinas went 002 red in the 1/4's as well. Mission finished around 7th in the Saturday standings. It is a good thing the points don't carry over, as the 'big green machine' would have a big Sunday advantage otherwise. Dave Copeland came close to being the only BC competitor to make it to Pomona, as he lost in the Bike/Sled final round. Prince George and Medicine Hat both had good day's for their small teams. Sunday it the real team race, and most are hoping Wooburn's run from Saturday has run out. I am betting MRP will put on a much better showing on Sunday. Photo galleries are here. Sept. 11, 2004 Friday's racing saw two time trial runs for all classes except Jrs., with Super Pro coming around 50 cars short of completing their second time trial. After the time runs, a 'gamblers race' was slated to go, but the moisture turned from drizzle into heavy rain and the day was ended a couple hours early. The gambler races in each class would have been real tough, as Pro Bracket had all eight in elimination's running right on their number. Saturday is slated to see Jrs. start off the day and then time runs until the"Race of Champions" (ROC) portion of finals starts at noon. With not so great weather predicted through the weekend, the ROC is the priority, and this event will run until it is finished (up until the middle of the week if necessary)
Team Madras (below) looks to be the "team with the most spirit so far. The Pacific Pirates are a close second.
Sept. 9, 2004 Mission Raceway Park........................The host track for the Division 6 ET finals, was buzzing with excitement Thursday as team were rolling in to the sea level facility, and drivers were getting their first taste of the fast racing surface. Close to 600 cars are pre-entered for the event, making this race, the BIGGEST ever in British Columbia drag racing history. If you are in the lower mainland or anywhere from Seattle North, get yer butts up to Mission, for the most fun you can have at a race track. Super Pro (with lots of seven second race cars), Pro Bracket (close to 200 in that class alone), Sportsman (140 cars. Possibly the most hotly contested class), Bike/Sled (the Sleds seem to shine in this race every year), High School (their big chance to show off in front of the masses), and Jr. Dragster (bragging rights are on the line) will all be out in force. Check back tonight for the Friday report which includes time trial and a Top eight "Gamblers Shootout".
