Shawn Cowie and Sean O'Bannon each took home their second NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Pacific Division win of the year today at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Spring Shootout presented by Torco Race Fuels.
Canadian racer Cowie of Delta, B.C., took out the No. 1 qualifier and defending Pacific Division Top Alcohol Dragster champion in Jim Whiteley with a final round pass of 5.653 seconds at 256.60 mph. This is Cowie's second win of the year to go along with his win last month in Arizona.

O'Bannon out of Ontario, Calif., also took on and out ran a defending Pacific Division Champion in Terry Ruckman of Grand Junction, Colo. O'Bannon ran in the 5.60 second zone all day taking out Mark Woznichak, Riverside, Calif., and Doug Gordon, Paso Robles, Calif., on his way to a win running of 5.654 seconds at 254.90 mph in the final over Ruckman.

Sportsman class eliminations

Lamb worked his way through the field in his '09 Cobalt before meeting up with the former NHRA Lucas Oil National Champion Dean Carter of Glendale, Ariz., in his final round win.

Val Torres Jr., Valinda, Calif., and Randy Balough, Newbury Park, Calif., topped the super categories with Torres beating Steve Williams and his K&N sponsored dragster in Super Comp and Balough taking his '63 Corvette to the winner's circle over Vincente Campa with a hole-shot win in Super Gas.

In the Hughes Top Dragster class it was Geoff Nelson, Canyon Lake, Calif., running 7.111 seconds, 189.15 mph to beat Mike Henderson while Rick Takahashi ran down J. Wayne Silvia of Upland, Calif., in the final of Top Sportsman. The San Gabriel, Calif., racer ran right on his dial at 7.540 seconds, 183.27 mph.

Scott Burton qualified second behind his son Brad and picked up the win in Stock Eliminator over Dave Workman prior to Tom Albritton's win in Super Stock over local favorite Stephanie Wong of Las Vegas.

The Super Street title was decided by just 4-inches as Gary Reust ousted Ryan Giacone and Craig Wood knocked off the No. 1 qualifier Bill Burkhart in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson class.

Cowie of Delta, B.C. CAN., and O'Bannon out of Ontario, Calif., secured their victories on Saturday night in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively. Cowie beat Jim Whiteley running 5.653 seconds at 256.60 mph and O'Bannon held off Terry Ruckman with a 5.654, 254.90 mph lap.

Pacific Division racers head to Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway for next weekend's JEGS Pacific Sportsnationals presented by K&N before heading to Top Gun Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional event, June 13-14.
