Kelowna's Mike Shannon won Super Gas for the second time in three years at Firebird over the weekend at the 35th Ignitor.

Mike Shannon took out Dave Kelly in the semis

Shannon defeated Chris Cannon in the battle of Corvettes. Cannon drives a popular 63 style Corvette and Shannon is in a topless 57 Corvette Roadster. The numbers were, .027 10.213 to a .014 10.231. Also in Super Gas, 2003 Div champ Stefan Kondolay went four rounds in his 2004 Cavalier.

A number of other "Canucks" fared well at Boise, as Cory Thompson came "oh so close" to getting his first Stock divisional win. He was edged out by perennial champion Jody Lang in the final, .013 12.852 (12.85 di) - .040 11. 580 (11.59 di)

Rookie driver George Evans went all the way to the semi finals in his first complete Super Comp divisional event. He was defeated by eventual R/U Ed Olpin.

Rob Harrison (J/A) qualified #3 in his Cavalier but went out in round two to Ray Hadford..

Bob Marshall's first whole race in Comp (B/AA) finished with a first round r/u, as he went out to R/U and #4 qualifier Dave Barcelon

Marshall did not have the fireworks he had at Mission. Qualified in the middle of the pack.

Bruce Perkin went out early (rd 1). Engine builder Mark Stewart went three rounds.

Todd Gluch (below) went on to win Top Comp even with this huge wheelstand in qualifying.

Nostalgia Top Fuel and Fuel Altereds were the main show at Boise not Top Alcohol, and to no surprise Jack Harris was the dominant force as he defeated fellow Idahoan, Scott Mason in the final round, 5.90 / 257 - 622/ 220

Ricky Ruiz defeated Gary Read in the Fuel Altered final round. Ruiz form Sparks, NV drove his `23 T Roadster to a 6.226, 232.73 defeat of Read from Apple Valley, CA, who smoked the tires.

Mike Scott (below) won Bike and has the early lead in the points.

The next Div six Lucas Oil event is in two weeks at Pacific Raceway, June 17-19.

Boise, Idaho -- Alan Ellis, of Mapleton, Utah, won the Competition Eliminator title in his popular A/AA, Rod Stults, of Marysville, Wash., took Super Stock, and Jody Lang of Puyallup, Wash., gathered in Stock Eliminator at the NHRA Northwest Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Firebird Raceway. It was all part of Firebird’s 35th Annual Napa Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Don Wiebold Ford.

Ellis hit 7.046 at 189.59 mph in the final with his screaming roadster. That was enough to stop Dave Barcelon, of Bremerton, Wash., in his F/Altered Chevy Cavalier.

Also taking Lucas Series titles were Brandon Yoder, of Gresham Wash., in Super Comp; Mike Shannon, of Kelowna, B.C. in Super Gas, while Missoula, Mont.’s Brian Birky took Super Street.

Also on the Ignitor menu was a battle of nostalgia-style Top Fuel racers called the Nitro Knockout. Jack Harris, one of the undisputed champions in this form of racing, scored a three-round decision in the Knockout. He took the final round with a victory over fellow Utah racer Scot Mason. It was a unanimous decision, 5.90, 257.51 mph to 6.228, and only 207.80 as Mason had mechanical troubles near the finish line.

Also on tap was a field of Northwest Division Top Comp dragsters with Todd Gluch of Jordan Valley, Ore., hitting 7.773, 168.22 mph in the final to defeat former NHRA Jr. Drag Racing standout Justin Lamb of Henderson, Nev. Lamb actually went quicker at 7.720, 173.14 mph.

In Sportsman Motorcycle action, Mike Scott, Sumner, Wash., rode his ’01 Kawasaki all the way to victory lane, beating Coeur d'Alene, Idaho’s Buff Kobs.
