Final Eliminations

CECIL, Ga. -- Jared Dreher and Bob Newberry captured wins this weekend at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at South Georgia Motorsports Park. Dreher out of Clinton, Ind., came for the 8th qualifying position in Top Alcohol Dragster, taking out No. 1 qualifier Dave Hedgers in round one, then beating rookie driver Lindsey Wood in the final. Dreher ran 5.689 seconds at 218.27 mph to Woods 6.054 second pass at 244.65 mph.
Former NHRA Lucas Oil National Champion Newberry put his '07 Top Alcohol Funny Car Monte Carlo in the winner's circle knocking off Mark Billington of Norcross, Ga., running 5.738 seconds at 254.38 mph. Billington's efforts fell off in the final as he slowed to a 15.885 seconds at 58.68 mph.

Columbus, Ga., racer Sherman Adcock Jr. took home the hardware in both Super Comp and Super Gas. Adcock defeated Chris Davis of Orlando, Fla., running 8.895 at 169.59 mph in Super Comp then drove his 02 Trans Am to a 9.908 second, 152.90 mph run in Super Gas over Mike Ruff also racing out of Orlando.

David Eaton picked up his second Southeast Division win in Comp Eliminator as his '32 roadster out ran current division champion Glen Tredwell with a lap of 6.773 seconds at 198.26 mph to Tredwell's 8.103, 162.68.

A pair of Tennessee racers took home wins as Jerry Holman of Hendersonville beat Gary Russell in Super Stock and Edmond Richardson of Greenbrier won over David Toren in Stock Eliminator.

Mark Padgett of Dublin, Ga., won the division's Mid-State RV Centers Top Dragster class running 7.617 seconds at 174.10 mph to a quicker 7.270 seconds at 182.50 by Ken Wells and Waycross, Ga., racer Bruce Thrift won in the TracStar Systems Satellites Top Sportsman class. Thrift and his '96 Beretta ran 7.673 at 179.11 to beat Bruce Duncan of Crawfordville, Fla., with a 7.318 second, 189.15 mph pass.

Rounding out this weekend's winners was Kevin MacNicol in his '78 Trans Am out of North Port, Fla. MacNicol ran 10.909 seconds at 128.46 mph in his winning efforts over Mike DeSio of Seminole, Fla., with a 10.893 in his '67 Chevy II.

NHRA Southeast Division racers head to Atlanta Dragway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, September 28-30.

Sunday eliminations wiped out.

CECIL, Ga. -- Excessive winds forced NHRA and South Georgia Motorsports Park officials to postpone today's eliminations for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The wind kicked up Sunday morning and is expected to continue throughout the day.
The event has been rescheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 11 & 12. Gates will open on Friday at 9 a.m. with a time trail session scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Eliminations will be held on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Cars will run first round of eliminations at 1 p.m. A complete schedule will be posted this week on the Southeast Division web site.

Qualifying has been completed and the fields are locked for all classes. The following are final qualifying results and first-round pairings for TAD and TAFC at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at South Georgia Motorsports Park:

Satruday qualifying

CECIL, Ga. - Dave Hedges and Mick Snyder grabbed the top spots for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at South Georgia Motorsports Park. Hedges, of Plainwell, Mich., drove his Top Alcohol Dragster to a time of 5.529 seconds at 260.21 mph and is followed by Lindsey Wood of McAlpin, Fla. with a 5.536 second, 243.28 mph pass. Woods won last month at No Problem Raceway and currently leads the Southeast Division Top Alcohol Dragster point's battle.
Snyder out of Demotte, Ind., clocked in at 5.830 seconds, 238.60 mph in this '02 Firebird Top Alcohol Funny Car to lead the field into tomorrow's eliminations. Norcross, Ga., racer Mark Billington jumped to the No. 2 spot with a 5.839 second, 247.07 mph pass and Keeter Ray of Newport Beach, Calif. is third at 5.877, 241.28.

Defending Southeast Division Champion Glen Treadwell of Sorrento, Fla., took the No. 1 spot away from David Eaton with a run of 7.960 seconds at 165.68 mph. Eaton, of Merritt Island, Fla., held on for second with Treadwell's daughter Jenny landing in the No. 9 spot in her '01 dragster.

Robert Davis drove his '63 Corvette to the top of the field in Top Sportsman with a lap of 6.743 seconds at 209.88 mph. Tommy Turner is second in his '70 GTO with a 6.852 second, 201.01 mph pass and Ronnie Davis is third out of Commerce, Ga. In Top Dragster it was Steven Furr of Harrisburg, N.C., taking to pole with a mark of 6.747 seconds at 193.79 mph. Furr is followed by Jimmy Campbell of Greer, S.C., and Charles Cullotto of Palm City, Fla.

Bobby Dennis held on to the top spot, setting a national record in the Super Stock GT/MA category with pass of 10.724 seconds followed by John Coughlin out of the Jegs Mail Order camp. In Stock Eliminator Douglasville, Ga., runner Wayne Shaw jumped to the top of the field with an 11.700 second run in his '83 Malibu Wagon with Mike Welfel landing in the No. 2 spot in his '69 Camaro.

Treadwell, Dennis, and Shaw each take home the Hughes Performance No. 1 Qualifier award and money from Hughes.

Racing continues Sunday at 9 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Track is located 12 miles north of

Friday qualifying

CECIL, Ga. -- Racing kicked off toady at South Georgia Motorsports Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series with David Eaton of Merritt Island, Fla., taking the top spot in Comp Eliminator with a pass of 6.843 seconds. Sorrento, Fla., resident Glen Treadwell and Tim Freeman of Roan Mountain, Tenn., follow in the No. 2 and 3 spots respectively.
Charles Cullotto clocked in at 196.22 mph in 6.955 seconds to lead the Mid-State RV Top Dragster class while Jim Harrington is No. 1 in the Trac Star System Satellites Top Sportsman class running 6.875 seconds, 203.43 mph. Cullotto is followed by Kurt Damron running 6.998 seconds at 191.40 mph and Ronnie Davis of Commerce, Ga., is No. 2 in Top Sportsman with a 6.887 second, 203.06 mph pass.

In Super Stock, Bobby Dennis put his '91 Calais on top with a pass of 10.724 seconds. Dennis of Shorter, Ala., is followed by John Coughlin and his '07 Cobalt out of Delaware, Ohio, and Don Barber in the third spot out of Hohenwald, Tenn.

Joining the rest of the top qualifiers is Mike Welfel in Stock Eliminator with a run of 11.01 seconds in his '69 Camaro. Douglasville, Ga., racer Wayne Shaw put his '83 Malibu Wagon in second with an 11.834 second lap. Eric Wingo landed in third and David Toren of Canton, Ga., in fourth.

This weekend's event also marks the final event to score points for the NHRA Southeast Division Jegs Allstar Team. The Jegs Allstars pits the best of the best from each of the NHRA's seven divisions in head to head competition for a share of the $100,000 purse at the CarQuest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway, June 9th.

Southeast Division racers already locked into this year's team are Aaron Olivarez, Top Alcohol Dragster; Jay Payne, Top Alcohol Funny Car; and Larry Pritchett, Comp Eliminator. Those currently leading the points in their class and looking to hold on and make the team include Emory Pierpont, Super Stock; Mickey Whaley, Stock; Scot LaMar, Super Comp; Sherman Adcock Jr., Super Gas; and Kevin Mac Nicol, Super Street.
