CECIL, Ga. -- After more than two months of waiting, Lucas Oil competitors in eight categories completed their final eliminations today at the rescheduled Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by CSR Performance Products being held this weekend at South Georgia Motorsports Park.
Starting from the No. 5 qualifying position, South Central division racer Lee Callaway of Channelview, Texas earned the win in Top Alcohol Dragster over Bradenton Motorsports Park winner, Artie Allen. Before meeting up with Allen in the dragster final, Callaway eliminated Robin Samsel and Southeast Division points leader and defending race winner, Guy Kelly of Wadley, Ala. In the final round, Callaway used a significant starting line advantage to defeat Allen, who ran a quicker and faster 5.566 second pass at 251.91 mph, to Callaway's pass of 5.602 seconds at 236.75 mph.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car, defending SGMP champ, Mark Billington of Norcross, Ga., claimed the race victory when for the second year in a row he took out points leader and defending division champ, Jay Payne. Prior to facing Payne in the championship round, Billington eliminated Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., racer John Alberigi III and Montgomery, Alabama's, John Sullivan. In his bout with Payne, Billington improved significantly over his prior runs and laid down a 5.821 second pass at 245.67 mph to earn the win. Payne ran an off-pace run of 6.332 seconds at 164.93 mph.

Other winners at this weekend's event were David Eaton of Merritt Island, Fla., in Competition Eliminator; Andy Fogle of Norway, S.C., in Super Stock; Peter Biondo of Maspeth, N.Y. in Stock Eliminator; Steve Deatherage of Rockledge, Fla., in Super Comp; John Gant of Tampa, Fla., in Super Gas and Joseph Skala of Palmetto, Fla. in Super Street. In TracStar System Satellites Top Sportsman Series competition, Ronnie Davis of Suwanee, Ga., was the winner.

After racers complete eliminations from the delayed Gainesville Raceway Lucas Oil Series event on Sunday afternoon, the next stop for racers on the NHRA Southeast Division tour is the division's season finale at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Ga., October 21-23. CECIL, Ga. -- Due to persistent rains in the area, the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event which was scheduled to take place this weekend at South Georgia Motorsports Park has been postponed. The event will now take place Aug. 5-6.2005
=20 The rescheduled event will feature time trials and qualifying on Friday and eliminations on Saturday. As an added bonus for the Southern Georgia fans, the weekend will feature a Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series double header, with the Gainesville Raceway Lucas Oil Series event, which has been postponed twice, completing their final eliminations here on Sunday, August 7.=20

It seems like Mother Nature just doesn't want to leave us alone this year. Sadly, this is our third rainout in a row, but fortunately for the fans we'll be back in August to put on a good show, said Southeast Division Director, Bill Holt.

CECIL, Ga. -- The opening day of racing at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, being held this weekend at South Georgia Motorsports Park, was postponed Friday due to rain.
"We plan to resume racing tomorrow at 10 a.m." said NHRA Southeast Division Director Bill Holt. "Our plan is to give the competitors in Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Gas and Super Street each one more qualifying attempt, while the racers in Comp Eliminator, Super Comp and Top Sportsman will each receive two runs. Once qualifying is complete we will proceed with eliminations in the afternoon."

The competitors in the 250-mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car categories will each receive one run at 3 p.m., with eliminations to follow at 6 p.m.

Before the rain ended the day's activities, racers in Super Stock and Stock Eliminator took to the South Georgia quarter-mile for one qualifying run. The respective low qualifiers in those classes are Shorter, Ala., racer Bob Dennis and Arnold Greene of Matthews, N.C.

The gates at South Georgia Motorsports Park will open tomorrow at 8 a.m. with qualifying and time trials set to resume at 10 a.m., leading off with Super Comp. Qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car is scheduled for 3 p.m., with eliminations to follow at 6 p.m.

Gates at South Georgia Motorsports Park open tomorrow at 8 a.m. General Admission tickets are $25. Children 6-12 years old are $5 and kids 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. All tickets include a pit pass.
