Friday Qualifying

EARLVILLE, Iowa -- Lemars, Iowa, racer David Wells hit 5.503, 250.55 mph in his Top Alcohol Dragster in Friday qualifying for this weekend's NHRA West Central Division Lucas Oil Series 2005 wrap-up at Tri-State Raceway. Wells, currently in the No. 2 position in season points for the division, hopes to use that position to reel in points leader Randy Meyer, of Spring Hill, Kan., who is currently in the No. 5 qualifying spot.
The event, presented by Hustler Turf Equipment and Wright-Way Trailers, is the last of six 2005 NHRA West Central Division Lucas Series events and will help settle season championships in eight Lucas categories and the added Sportsman Motorcycle category. More than 400 racers are slated to participate.

North Central Division interloper Kim Fritts, of Greenup, Ill., is the current leader in Top Alcohol Funny Car with a 5.968, 241.54 mph performance from his '98 Pontiac Firebird. Current division points leader Cy Chesterman did not get in a run.

Racing action at Tri-State continues Saturday for more time trials and qualifying. Gates open at 7 a.m. Qualifying and time trials for Lucas Series racers begin at 8 a.m. with sessions for the 260 mph Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars slated for noon and 4 p.m.

Final Eliminations are Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. with the first rounds of Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car scheduled for noon.

Tickets are $20 each day for adult general admission. Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 each day and those 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
