Doug Gordon has set out to defend his Top Alcohol Funny Car title, as well. Gordon, from Paso Robles, Calif., won this race a year ago along with the events in Bakersfield, Calif., and Fallon, Nev. Also in the hunt will be Steve Gasparrelli, a former division champion from West Covina, Calif., and Dennis Taylor of Anaheim Hills, Calif. There is also a new Top Alcohol Funny Car in the Pacific division. It is owned by O'Bannon and wheeled by Alexis De Joria of Venice, Calif. De Joria, who competed in NHRA's Super Comp class last year, earned her TAFC license in January. In Super Comp, she was the runner-up at the divisional event in Bakersfield and won the Pacific SportsNationals in Fontana, Calif. The O'Bannon team will soon field another TAFC as well. O'Bannon's son Sean, who wheeled his Top Alcohol Dragster entry to a second place finish in both the national and divisional points, will run the car. It is likely the team will sit out this event and be up and running at the national event in Las Vegas in April, ready to make a run at divisional and national titles. The Phoenix area is home to several reigning Pacific division champions. Comp Eliminator champ Dean Carter, who has four consecutive titles to his credit, is from Glendale; Tibor Kadar, who earned the division's Stock Eliminator title and finished second in the national points standings, resides in Peoria; and Super Street titlist Keith Manogue is from Phoenix.
