Braid's Canso takes shape

Recent photos reveal that all those GB rumors were just that. The new Canso should be out of the chassis shop any day now, as the owner is out "shopping for an audio/video system...hehe". There are many more surprises in store as the small block powered street legal piece comes together. We look forward to rolling chassis pics soon.

In other Door Car news from across North America
The NHRA is adopting another IHRA staple class to competition. Following the success of Division Six's Top Comp, the go fast bracket class open to dragsters and doorcars, which started in 1999 and was adopted by Division five in 2002, Division three is going to run Top Sportsman as well as Division Two and Division four three divisions in 2003. Top Sportsman is a class very similar to Top Comp except it is restricted to door cars only.

The much rumored question regarding Top Sportsman running at 2003 North Central Division events can now be classified as fact. Top Sportsman eliminator will be contested at each of the six NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events in the division, as well as, the 29th annual Doorslammer National Open at Ohio Valley Raceway.

The first ever NHRA North Central Division Top Sportsman Champion will be determined by a racers best five finishes in his or her first eight events including up to two out-of-division races. Point awards will follow the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as outlined in the NHRA rulebook. Top Sportsman will also be contested in the Southeast (Division 2) and South Central (Division 4) NHRA divisions.

The class will follow current Top Sportsman rules. Each Division 3 event will feature a qualified 32-car field with $1,200 posted for the winner, $600 runner-up, $300 for 4th round finishers and $200 for 3rd round finishers. A number of major manufacturers have already signed up for contingency awards with a complete posting to be announced soon. NHRA “Wally” trophies will be presented to each event winner.

A year-end points fund will reward the top three finishers with $2,000, a Top Sportsman Gold Card, NHRA “Wally” Division Champion trophy and jacket to be presented to the champion at the annual “Land of the Winners” Awards Banquet to be held January 17, 2004 in Indianapolis. The runner-up will pocket $1,000 and third-place will receive $500.

A bonus Top Sportsman Shootout, similar to the specialty races in NHRA’s POWERade Drag Racing Series will be featured at Beech Bend Raceway Park on Saturday, August 23. The bonus race-within-a-race will match the season’s Top 8 qualifiers based on qualifying points counted up to the Beech Bend event.
