May 30, 2003 Preview to both the NHRA AMS Pro Mod event at Joliet as well as the IHRA National event at Grand Bend is very tough to do, because entry lists are not provided. We will preview the event after today's qualifying. My guess from Grand Bend is: Al Billes, Quain Stott, Tim McAmis, Paul Athey, Shannon Jenkins, Mike Castellana, Harold Martin, Dale Brinsfield, Thomas Patterson and Ed Hoover will compete. At Chicago, I would say that Mitch Stott, Fred Hahn, Zack Barkelage, Mike Ashley, Roy Hill and Johnny Rocca among others will be in Joliet. Having two Pro Mod events on the same weekend within 500 miles (I think it is 200-300 miles) is just plain crazy. At Grand Bend, I'm pleasantly surprised that all the hitter I expected to be at Grand Bend were their except for Tim McAmis, and it is a pretty quick field after two sessions. Leading is Canadian Al Billes with Mike Janis and Mitch Stott less then 1/100ths of a second behind. The top 6 cars are of the Blown variety and there are 8 blown and 8 nitrous cars so far in the field. Here is the field so far after two session at Grand Bend: 1 69 Al Billes, Barrie ON, '53 Studebaker 6.231 225.62
17 3214 Rick Stivers, Lexington KY, '92 Chevy Corvette
6.431 205.90 Chicago's Route 66 Raceway at Joliet Illinios, The big hitters on the premises include Tim McAmis, Fred Hahn and Rickie Smith to name a few. No 6.0 passes so far at Chicago, as the quickest lap was put in by Mike Ashley who ran a 6.241. The eight car bump is currently at 6.31 and is held by Mike Stawicki with a 6.315. Here is the field after two sessions on Friday: 1 1211 Mike Ashley, Melville NY, '41 Willys 6.241 225.67 ------------ Not Qualified ------------ 9 1313 Chip King, Roxboro NC, '01 Dodge Avenger 6.339 224.43

Mitch Stott takes out Mike Ashley for his second win in 2003! May 20, 2003
1 Mitch Stott 1421 - (2 Wins) Sunday elimination picks: Saturday May 17, 2003 Sunday eliminatons will see McAmis, Mitch Stott, Tom Patterson and Al Billes advance to the semi finals. #2 qualifier Quain Stott and Roy Hill will be upset in the first round. In the semis, Tim McAmis will prove his three runs in qualifying were no fluke as he contnues to run great numbers, and defeat Patterson in one semi and Stott will defeat Billes in the other. In the final round, The car builder (McAmis) will get his second win of the year, when Stott shakes the "Radiac" Corvette on the starting line. Take these picks to Altlantic City. Saturday 17, 2003 The cars at Englishtown are impressive indeed. 24 cars trying for the 8 car field, and weather conditions that are perfect for a record field. After the final round of qualifying, Tim McAmis leads with three runs 6.10 or better and a best of 6.097/231 mph. In the #2 position is Quain Stott who bested his broother with a 6.105/231 mph. Hus brother Mitch is # 3 with a 6.129/233.72. Drag School legend Roy Hill is in the #4 spot after running the quickest pass for a Ford bodied door car, a great 6.13/231. Canadian Al Billes is solidly in the field with a 6.15/229mph blast. Not in the field is West Coast favourite Danny Rowe who ran a best of 6.30/217mph. Final Qualifying is now complete and Tim McAmis stays on top here is the final qualifying, and it is the quickest eight car field in NHRA Pro Mod history!!: 1 1004 Tim McAmis, Hawk Point MO, '63 Chevy Corvette
6.097 231.87 231.87 Qualifying after Saturday's first session: 1 1004 Tim McAmis, Hawk Point MO, '63 Chevy Corvette
6.097 231.87 231.87 ------------ Not Qualified ------------ 9 57 Troy Critchley, Wylie TX, '96 Chevy Corvette 6.241 226.05 226.05 May 13, 2003 Canada West Doorslammers at the "Plex! Kirton is 1st time winner and Macloed is in final in 1st race with the 'slammers. The conditions were tough at the second race of the year for the Canada West Doorslammers, presented this weekend by the great guys at Pro Stock Performance in Edmonton. With the rescheduled Mission div. event on the Saturday guys running dual duty at Mission and Ashcroft has alot of mile to put in, but with double points at Ashcroft it was worth the trip. The guys that made it up for Saturday, had the advantage of extra qualifying laps at the desert facility, but the guys at Mission had a number of laps on their cars as well, so were ready for the two shots they got on Sunday. Final qualifying had to no ones surprise, Duane Grosart take the top spot with a half throttle 7.15/193 blast in his sweet Pro Mod '55 Chevy. Ray Kirton was #2 with his best effort yet, a 7.85/170 mph shot, his first seven second qualifying effort ever.Rob Charlton, one of the Mission competitors who headed North went 7.94/171 and Dave Warren rounded out the top 4 with a 7.97/170 lap. 17 cars and trucks attempted to make the field but only 12 did on the 8.81 factored bump spot. Grant Howell, Frank Nelson (who broke the tranny), Jason Mercer (who hurt the motor), Terry Spargo (who had Suspension problems) and Brian Kikel (tire shake and electrical wooes) in a friend's (name not known Wally something) new Vega all failed to make the field. That left 12 to compete for the $1000 and double points. Kirton defeated Grosart in round one, Joe Mellof got the win over Stefan Kondalay (both these guys ran double duty at Mission and Ashcroft. Rick Macleod got by Mike Munden, Steve Ellis defeated Mike Bedsworth, Rob Charlton defeated Dave Warren and Layne Wooley took out Roy Lazic's Corvette. A big announcement by Layne is the signing of major sponsor Super Save Gas to a three year deal. Here is the decalling for the car. Very neat graphics. Congratulaions Layne! Round two matchups saw Kirton upset Charlton on a hole-shot 6/1000ths victory 7.959 to 8.029. Joe Mellof defeated Layne Wooley when got loose. Mellof's .008 light would have been tough to beat though. Finally Rick Macleod defeated Steve Ellis when Steve broke out by two hundredths. Kirton had the semi final bye into the final and Rick Macleod upset Joe Mellof when Joe was real late at the starting line. The Final round was real close at the starting line as both Macleod and Kirton had .03 lights, but Rick took way too much stripe and broke out by .03 to give Ray Kirton and the cool blown truck his first ever win on the Doorslammer circuit. Way to go to all the teams for making the trek to the plex, and collecting the double points for their effort. A special thanks go out to all the sponsors of the series for 2003, and they include Pro Stock Performance, Blue Max Performance, Kershaw Performance, Up In Flames Clothing Company, DTT Diesel Performance, Parr Racing Engines, Charlton Automotive, TCS Performance Products, Davenport Custom Race Cars, Jet Tools and Equipment, Aurora Electronics and B & B Tireland The next race is in four weeks at the Langley Loafers Old Time Drags at the Eagle Motorplex June 7-8. Come on up and enjoy one of the best weekends of the year. Here is the top ten standings after two races: Ray Kirton 229 May 9, 2003 The "Canada West Doorslammers" race #2 presented by Pro Stock Performance from Edmonton, at the Eagle Motorplex, Ashcroft B.C. This weekend will be one of the most hectic weekends in recent years up at the Motorplex. With the rain outs this year up at the desert facility (what an oxymoron that is), the track scheduled a triple header this weekend, with two Summit Bracket races on Saturday, and one on Sunday. For the Canada West Doorslammers, the cars that are running Top Comp at the Mission rescheduled Lucas Oil event, will hopefully finish up Saturday afternoon, then make the 3 1/2 hour trek north to the 'Plex, and possibly make one hit Saturday with the Doorslammers, and then make their last two qualifiers Sunday morning before eliminations. The teams that are serious about the Doorslammer series are in the position to make the Ashcroft event because both races their this year are double points events. So even a first round loss is worth up to 59 points. The competitors that are at Mission then heading up to "Eagle" include 1st race winner Joe Mellof, Stefan Kondalay, Rob Charlton, Terry Spargo, Frank Nelson, Dale Giroux and Randall Tucker. We'll have more updates tonight on this event and who we can expect to see at the Eagle Motoroplex.
