Ken Sihota gets his biggest ever win.
Pro Street champion Ken Sihota on a 6.60 pass Saturday Pro Street qualifying and eliminations A very strong showing of CPSA Pro Street cars highlights that assoc. first event of the year. Ten cars were entered for the race but only nine made qualifying efforts. Garrett Richards broke in testing on Friday and could not make repairs the the weekend.
Ken Sihota from Langley is now the latest top gun on the local front, as he in just his fourth or fifth race with his new Firebird, layed down a 6.621 211 mph in the second round of qualifying Saturday afternoon. The smallish 615 cu in Big Block Chevy with two stages of Edelbrock nitrous started off with a solid 6.75 in round one and progressively got better. Yvonne Lucas debuted her new Camaro and it is a very sweet ride. The first qualifier she had a nitrous leak but they made a couple strong and improving runs. The team is still sorting out the new car bugs, be they are well on their way to six second passes. Kerry Stone ran an out of the box 6.83 in his new turbo Camaro, but the car slowed on the top end, as they had issues all weekend with keeping the turbos under power through the 1320. Rash Dhaliwal was out for the first time this year, and he made a couple improving runs in qualifying netting him a 6.7 best I didn't get the full qualifying sheet for the Pro Street class but I believe this is the qualifying order.
1. Ken Sihota 6.62
Broke DNQ Garrett Richards
In Eliminations ..............Ken Sihota the #1 qualifier odd car bye and he ran it out to 1000 feet and lifted, coasting to a 6.90 pass. Jay Syvertsen who had to pedal his way through qualifying as the big powered 37 Chevy had traction issues every lap.
He took on Lucas in round one. Syvertsen got all his ducks in a row, and he raced to a 6.75 to a game 7.09 for Yvonne Lucas. It is very cool to see new competitors especially females in Pro Street. Kerry Stone faced Trevor Willms who had issues every run, and this one was over quickly as well. Trevor sat at the tree, and Stone launched harder than I have ever seen the camaro.
He was on a 6.70 lap for sure but the car slowed a bit on the top end as he went 6.83/197. Willms did end up with his best run of the weekend, but it was still 2 seconds back of Stone's. Darryl Stone was set to face Roy Moznik but Moznik broke, giving Stone #2 a single. He ran his best of the weekend a solid 7.03/197 to advance.
In the biggest upset of round one, Dale Peterson who also struggled in qualifying, wound up with a freebie, as #2 qualifier Rash Dhaliwal, broke the tranny on the burnout. That left the two Stone cars, Jay Syvertsen, Ken Sihota, and Dale Peterson in round two.
1/4 finals..............Sihota faced Darryl Stone and it was all Sihota as he advanced to the semi finals. Upset guy Dale Peterson got the lucky odd car bye due to his win in round #1 against the #2 qualifier. Jay Syvertsen defeated Kerry Stone in the 1/4's.
Semi Finals....................Syvertsen got a odd car single and he just staged his 37 and shut off. Crew man Brian Forster got burned by the headers while Jay was staging. Ouch!! Dale could not keep his luck going , as Sihota blasted to another six second pass, his best of the weekend a, 6.606/211 mph.
The final had the potential for a great run as Syvertsen installed a new clutch and was tuned up for his quickest run of the weekend. Sihota, wanted to stay the course, and keep on run 6.60's. The start for both cars was strong, but Jay had to pedal the 37 while Sihota was off like his previous laps, he ran another 6.6, this time a 6.67@ 210 to Jay's game 6.939/194 Here is a sequence of the final round from 700 feet (it shows Syvertsen pedalling his car, look at the butterflys).
Ken Sihota would like to thank a few guys who have helped a lot to get his program where it is right now. His crew including Alex Haxby and Mike Stewart and special thanks to Rob at Diversified Metal Works. His car is an ex RJ race Cars Pro Stock previously owned by Kenny Koretsky. One of the best Pro Street events of the year, and these guys return in three weeks for the National Open at Mission. In Outlaw 10.5 Dale Moznik defeated Steve Nicholson in the final round. Only 4 cars were in the field, and these two were easily the quickest. The final round Dale Moznik .068 rt 7.177/195.95 def Steve Nicholson .042rt 7.538/184.46
Canada West Doorslammers The CWDS site has the full weekend report. This is an abbreviated recap.
Winner Tyson Wells and the Fortin Automotive sponsored VW. A huge field of Dorslammmers was on hand at MRP for their fifth race of the season. 33 cars tried for the 8.70 minimum and 29 got in the field.
Terry Spargo was THE man again with his 6 second Cavalier. He went a career best 6.53/212. There was potential for him to be challenged, but Duane Grosart who ran 6.65 on Saturday with the Pro Mods, got loose in his only run with the doorslammers. He went an on and off the throttle 7.05 at only 14 mph. Jeff Hill also jumped from the Pro Mod scene to the Doorslammers. He ran his quickest lap of the weekend a 6.98/201 to end up #3. Brian Kikel ran career bests, as did Phil Davis (a non counting 7.48 as he was not licensed for quicker than 7.50). Lyle Hinrichsen was out with the Doorslammers and he went .6 quicker than ever before, with a best of 8.08 in round one of eliminations.
1. Terry Spargo 6.532/212.61

In eliminations, It ended up the quickest car vs the slowest car for likely the first time ever, Tyson Wells in his eight second VW took on the six second ride of Spargo's. Unfortunately for Spargo, he did not get the chance to race down Wells, as he had mechanical issue that prevented him from the 60 mph pass at the end of the 1320. Wells with the win and the fifth different winner in five races this year. The parity in the series is evident as there has also been 9 different finalists out of a possibility of 10. Mike Bedsworth had a very tough weekend as he had two unfortunate happenings in less than 24 hrs. Saturday night he had his truck stolen from the BW Hotel, and then Sunday he hit the wall in a second round win over Brian Kikel. No major damage but he likely will miss a couple races.
Kevin Lance, who has not won a race this year, took the point lead by 5 over Dave Warren and Tyson Wells.
Special thanks to the Lance and Springer teams for their support over the weekend for the fund raising BBQ. The series raised over $1400.00 which will go to the season ending point fund. Friday testing Randy Arlitt had his new bullet in his 55 Chevy, and he apparantly did a big wheelie on his first lap. A few Pro Street made test laps as well, here iare a few pictures from testing
