Here is the weekend wrap up and final round results from Drag Race Central for the inuagural Motorcity Nationals

Clay Millican won his fourth Top Fuel race of the 2003 Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series today during the inaugural Motor City Nationals at Milan Dragway
defeating Bruce Litton in the final round.

Mike Janis, Pro Modified; John Vouros, Funny Car; and Jason Collins, Pro Stock were also winners in their respective categories.

Millican (left), of Drummonds, Tenn., has won four of the five races this year, losing two weeks ago to Litton at the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Millican began the day qualified second and defeated Grant Flowers in round one. Facing Ken Zeal round two, both racers smoked the tires and pedaled down the track to save the runs. Millican won the "pedal-fest", crossing the finish line in 6.678 seconds to Zeal's 9.608. In the final, Litton beat Millican off the tree, but the defending, two-time Top Fuel world champion saved his best run for last as he raced around Litton to a 5.003 e.t. at 252.76 miles per hour. Millican remains number one in Top Fuel points, Litton (right) second.

"We are just glad to make it out of here with a win," said Millican. "It wasn't really a
horsepower win. We took a 4.50 (second) car and made it run 5.0s, which isn't easy. And luckily, we did it all without really hurting any parts.

"I pretty well knew that every run I had to be ready to pedal or grab the brake," added
Millican. "I can't say enough about what the whole Werner team was able to do."

Debuting a new paint scheme on his 1963 Corvette, Mike Janis (left) defeated Steve Vick in the supercharged versus nitrous Pro Modified final, running the quarter-mile in 6.559 seconds at 224.36 mph. Janis, of Lancaster, N.Y., qualified number one, ran a 6.415 e.t. to defeat first round opponent Wayne Torkelson, defeated Mike Ashley in round two and Paul Athey in the semi-finals. "This was for sure a tuner's race," explained Janis. "We got lucky on Saturday and went in with a soft tune-up and just kind of stuck with that. We went back to our old days of running match races. The rule change probably helped us out this weekend by backing the car down some."

Janis is now in second place behind Pro Modified points leader Mitch Stott. Mitch's brother Quain Stott is in third place. ( Steve Vick right)

John Vouros (left) defeated number two qualifier Ronnie Midyette in Funny Car running a 6.276 e.t. at 232.79 mph. Vouros defeated Terry Munroe in round one with a 5.944 e.t., Chris Foster in round two and Tony Bogolo in the semi-finals. Vouros then went on and won his first career national event.

"This day is indescribable," said Vouros. "After the way this weekend went, who would have ever thought that we'd have ended up in the winner's circle. We started out the day right and we figured that if we could keep lane choice, our plan was to control our own destiny today."

Midyette's (right) runner-up finish puts him first place in the Funny Car points chase followed by Rob Atchison, Mark Thomas and Bogolo. The top four are separated by 34 points.

Jason Collins (left) won his second-consecutive Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock event defeating Floyd Cheek. Collins, of Rainbow City, Ala., drove the Virginia Technical College Cougar to a final round 6.741 e.t. to Cheek's 7.796.

Collins defeated John Bartunek in round one, and Redford, Mich. native Chris Holbrook round two. In the semi-finals, Collins left the line early, an assumed loss, but opponent John Montecalvo crossed the center-line making Collins the winner.

"We had some rounds given to us today and then there was the one in the semi-finals where it was the first or worst deal," explained Collins. "I kept thinking that if they were going to keep giving these wins to me that eventually I'd figure out how to get down the track. We figured it out in the finals and I'm as shocked as anyone.

"Of course I had help to make it here from my wife, mom and dad, VC Tech and their students and all of the people at the track that make it possible for me to be here."

Brian Gahm is the new Pro Stock points leader, followed by Rick Jones, Carl Baker and Doug Kirk. Twenty-seven points separate the top four.

The next event on the 2003 Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series is the ACDelco Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, July 25 - 27.
