Saturday was a wait and see day that turned into a fun event for 23 Jrs. at the annual Jr. Dragster Challenge at Mission Raceway Park. The normal turnout is 50+cars, but the weather today turned off a bunch of cars, and they missed out big time. The two dozen cars were split into the Lightning and Thunder based on their ets in the three rounds of qualifying. After the first two rounds of elimination's in both classes, the losers entered the Storm category as a consolation round.

In Lightning, 13 cars went into first round and Adam DePeel was #1 qualifier with a 7.84 et 83 mph. Kyle Scholotfelt (far left) , Brittany Kokotailo, Josh Howell, Katlyn Daniluk (near left), Sean Ferguson and Darren Barton all advanced to the second round. Round two saw Scholotfelt, Ferguson, Kokotailo, and Daniluk make it into the semi finals. Katlyn Daniluk from Red Deer defeated Langley's Sean Ferguson and Kyle Scholotfelt from Yakima defeated Mission Brittany Kokotailo. It was a Canada/US final with Alberta's Katlyn Daniluk defeating Kyle Scholotfelt with an .026 rt and a 9.144/70.75 mph (9.11 dial). Kyle went .046rt 8.098/80.84 (7.99 dial) Good job Katlyn and all the kids in Lightning.

In Thunder, 12 cars lined up for first round, and Gary Howe Jr. Hope Allen, Cameron Barton, Michael Lowe, Nicki Cunningham and Thomas Howe (right) all advanced to round two. In the 1/4's, Mission rookie driver Mike Lowe (below), defeated Gig Harbour's Gary Howe, Hope Allen from Mission defeated Cameron Barton from Langley and Gary Howe's brother Thomas, defeated Nicki Cunningham. The semis saw Thomas get the bye and Michael Lowe defeat Hope Allen. This set up another Canada/US final. This one was over before the starting line though, as Mike Lowe's dragster would not fire after stalling on the burnout, giving Thomas the easy win. Too bad for Mike, as he was very sharp on the tree in elimination's, and it would have been a great race.

The consolation Storm category, saw the 18 1st and 2nd round losers match-up, and the semi finals had Langley's Cameron Barton (far left) get taken out by Josh Howell (near left) from Pasco, Wa. and Gary Howe Jr. getting the semi bye. The Finals round was two Jr. heavy hitters from Washington doing battle and Josh Howell got the win by defeating Gary Howe Jr.

After the kids were finished, some of the moms got into their offsprings ride's, and got to see if they could run better than the kids. The final round saw Shelly Mellof (above left) take on Wilma Peck for bragging rights. Wilma left first, but Shelly got by her on the top end, to get the win for the Canadian ladies. (above right, Shelly Rachel takes her turn in Brandon's digger)

Here are a bunch of pictures from all the fun today.
