The Finals are in! Canadian Mike Shannon wins Super Gas. The Boomtown Rats tune, "I don't like Monday's", did not apply for Kelowna's Mike Shannon, as he went on to win Super Gas at the one day delayed Finals in Division six's first event of the year, in the Lucas Oil Series event at Firebird Raceway in Boise Idaho. Mike in his Corvette Roadster got the best of 47 other competitors, including Mike Coltrin in the final round. Mike .017 was only a tick behind Coltrin's .016, but did not take the stripe, allowing his lesser break out run to give him the victory. Shannon ran 10.179 (.021under) to Coltrin's 10.154 (.046 under). Way to go Mike! In Super Comp, Dick Vander Meer defended his 2002 victory here at Boise by taking out first time finalist Juliet Barnhart. Juliet took the starting line advantage, but took too much stripe and broke out by .022 on the 9.20 index. Boise is the Home track to both competitors. 32 cars were on hand in Super Comp. Super Street had 44 cars in the field in their first race on the year. DJ Jannuzzi got the win in his Camaro when Steve Beggerly took way to much stripe after having the better rt. Jannuzzi combined a dead on 10.208 (10.20 dial) with a .034 reaction to defeat Beggerly's better leaving .012 but too fast 11.164 (.036 under). Stock eliminator had a familiar name in the winners circle as well, when Jody Lang took the win in his M/SA Chevy Wagon over Mike Lewis in his "K" automatic Camaro. 46 Stockers were on hand to compete at Boise. Jody was the defending champion as well. Top Comp had a great field of cars on hand, as 45 cars tried to make the 7.89 32 car field. Only one Canadian was in the field and that was Dale Giroux from Alberta. Dale went to the third round where he lost to semi final runner up Scott Howell. In the final, #1 qualifier Nick Drzayich in his Pro Stock Firebird, red lit away his chance for victory to one of the top hitters in the class, Jeff Devey. Jeff runner up in the Top Comp standings in 2002 (I think) had a great .019 light and ran a right on 7.551 on his 7.55 dial. Competition Eliminator started off the way it finished last year, as 2002 series champion Adam Bowdish driving his D/SM got the win over Alan Ellis' A/AA. Alan got a better light with a .026, but shook real hard and got close to the center line, so he clicked it early. There was only 11 cars in the field this year. Super Stock and Kerker Motorcycle will be decided at Mission May 2nd. A total of 266 cars in the NHRA classes competed not including the brackets, Jr's, or the Nitro exhibitions Here are the final round results from Boise COMP ELIMINATOR STOCK ELIMINATOR SUPER COMP SUPER GAS SUPER STREET TOP COMP

I'm finding it really hard to get excited about this Division race for one reason. No Alcohol Cars!! Man that really sucks! Ever since Top Fuel and Funny Car have be absent from the divisional series, almost 3 decades ago, the Top Alcohol cars have been THE feature cars at the divisional level. It was their time to be showcased, instead of being filler, and a track goes and craps on them. I don't know which is worse, having a divisional race like that in Montgomery, Alabama last week, where there was only NINE Top Alcohol cars total (both classes), or a track that doesn't want them. Well at least the division 2 track wanted the cars. In a case like that, the cars better start supporting the division events. At Boise, the Alcohol cars have averaged 7.2 cars in each class since 1997. And this event is scheduled very early in the year for a mountainous track in the North West. Hell, only a little distance from the track, snow is bountiful. They have always hosted their event at this time so it is hard to justify them changing it, even if it has snowed at the facility on that date. The crowd is always good, and so is the overall car turnout. The amount they have to pay to these 260 mph cars is chump change, compared to what they are worth, and it is less than they pay the cars that have replaced them. FED nitro cars and Fuel Altered's that rarely get down the track. Tell us New family, what is the real reason? What have the alky cars done to you, that made you come to this decision. The writing was pretty much on the wall last year, when they charged the Alky cars (a real no-no IMO), that pre-registered late. I sure hope this is not a trend, unless the NHRA is going to make adjustments to the schedule so the alky cars get all the necessary events in their own division. Even if they do, I still don't think that a track deserves to host a division race or one that is considered "In-Division". I'll stop my rant now and give you the run down from Saturday morning qualifying. Top Alcohol Dragster (not!) Top Alcohol Funny Car (not!) Comp Eliminator. Adam Bowdish leads after two sessions at Firebird. His best was a.634 under 8.836 in D/SMA. Tom Tucker, Clint Sallee, Brian Hyerstay and Alan Ellis round out the top half of the 11 car (so far) field. Here are the top qualifiers, courtesy of Drag Race Central. 1 10 D/SM Adam Bowdish, West Linn OR, '89 Trans Am 8.836 9.47 -0.634 Super Stock is led by one of the Super Stock Hemis from the Michael Ogburn stable. Harry Holton is out front after running a great (1.322 under) 9.008. That works out to a 8.678 at sea level. Other then the Barton passes last October, this is the second quickest "AA" car out there. I can't wait for the Mission "Hemi Shootout". Gary McGlasson from New Mexico is #2 with his SS/HA. In the three hole right now is Harry's team mate Jerry Jenkins. Saturday morning though, Scott Hilton took over #1 with a great 1.449 under 10.74 in his D/SA Mustang. Four of the next eight spots are taken by the go fast cars in Stock the "A" and A/SA" cars. Joe Sorenson and Robert Pond are two and three and then Don Little and Les Norton are #'s eight and nine. Here is the top ten after the Saturday morning session: 1 7858 D/S Scott Hilton, Burbank CA, '67 Mustang 10.741 12.19 -1.449 Top Comp Top Comp is the other go fast class after Comp Eliminator has Doorcars, Dragsters, Altereds and Roadsters competing with various engine combinations including small blocks, big blocks, nitrous combos and blown combos, all in an effort to run quicker than 7.99 (unfactored) in a 32 car field. It is very similar to IHRA's Top Sportsman except for allowing any type of car and not just Doorcars into the class. There has been every type in the winners circle as well including 7 second blown small block street legal cars.
