A Oct. 11, 2004 "KING OF THE TRACK" FOR 2004 A gallery is up Jimmy Behnke
The Muffler Tech Fall Bracket Meet........ "King of the Track" race and the "O'Reilly Jr. Dragster National Challenge" all wrapped up yesterday at Mission Raceway Park. The O'Reilly Junior results are here
Super Shifter concluded their season as well and Terry Hoogstins (above) stole the show with a couple huge wheelstands out of the 57 bug, but Pat Byron (below) won the event in his 8 second Nova. He defeated Tom Tillyer in his Trans Am when Pat went .001 red in the final round.
The CPSA results are in their Zone.
Sportsman As far as the four bracket classes on Sunday, Dave Rastad (pickup below) won Sportsman driving the wife's race truck, over the Camaro of Jim Reddington.
Pro Pro Bracket saw hitter Chris Stone (below black Dart) wrap up his year with a victory over series champion Bruce Flodin.
Super Pro Super Pro was won By Jim Behnke (below right lane) , as he took his Cuda to the winners circle over Vicki Strell.
And finally in bike, Kevin Brennan (below left lane) defeated Dan Tempel in the final round. Bike
The winners of the four bracket classes, raced in the season finale "King of the Track" after the regular final rounds were completed and in the first pairing Chris Stone from Pro bracket raced Jim Behnke and Behnke got the win with a .019 light and then dumping at the finish line giving Chris the breakout stripe. In the other semi, Sportsman winner Dave Rastad took on the Bike winner Kevin Brennan. This one saw a huge 7 second handicap start for Rastad, and hearing that bike on the rev chip for also 10 seconds was unreal, but Kevin waited until green and had 4/100 at the tree giving him the win at the top end. That set up Super Pro vs Bike for all the bragging rights. It was Jim Behnke's day as he got all the hardware, taking out Brennan in the final round. It was not the weekend that everyone was hoping for weather wise, but luckily Sunday was good enough where they could get the track dried and all those diehards who wanted their last kick at the can where rewarded with a fun ending to the season. Kudos to all the Alberta drivers who made the trek West to get their last chance to navigate the 1/4 mile as well. They suffered through a real wet Friday and Saturday, but did get a chance on Sunday. Hopefully not to many of you went out first round. See you at the banquet the first Saturday of December. Sept. 27, 2004 The final points earning weekend wrapped up from two long days of action at Mission Raceway. A bracket double header with close to 200 bracket cars cars each day, competing along with 100 cars from other classes made for very long day on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was especially long due to a couple bad oil downs and a number of breakage's. The final events of the year tend to bring out the attrition for sure. In Super Pro on Saturday, Joe Mura in his new Super Comp Dragster took out Al Hampton who has been driving Herman Chan's Chevy powered Dodge. He had an .017 advantage at the tree and a 8.25 152.18 run to defeat Al's 10.92. On Sunday, Jim Behnke driving his trusty Cuda had an awesome .018 package to defeat the Roadster driven by Ken Orser who took the stripe but broke out by .008. Vicki Strell made it the semis on Sunday and George Lachanas was the lone semi final loser on Saturday. A number of Super Gas competitors who were racing their assoc. final double header did double duty racing in both classes on both days. A few guys who did well had as many as 15+ hits for the two days. Here are the point standings after this weekend's double header, but BEFORE the 3 waivable races have been taken off, so they are NOT the final results for the season standings. 1. 6639 Martin Rachel Richmond BC 78 Malibu 906 In Pro Bracket over 50 cars competed both days, and on Sunday Dean Osen defeated Sportsman hitter (who ran a few Pro bracket races this season) Phil Marvetz. Marvetz had a great .015 light in the final but his Duster had troubles and he could not run his 13.14 dal in. Osen's early clicking 11.81 on a 11.40 dial in was enough for a .6 margin of victory. Jim Fowler was the lone semi finalist in this six round race. On Saturday, Ralph Ringle got the win in his 68 Acadian (Nova) over Chris Blair. It was an easy victory for the Budget Brake and Muffler owner as Blair was not able to made the final round, giving Ralph had an easy stroll down the 1/4 mile. Bill Mitchell was the lone semi final r/u on Saturday. The point total is compiled without the three waived races being taken off yet. 6227 Bruce Flodin Abbotsford 95 Dodge 826 The Sportsman class had 32 cars on both days and it was a great weekend for Lorne Ridley as he went to the final round both days. On Sunday he picked up the win over Steve Baskerville with a great .004 rt and an off the throttle 14.19 on a 13.96 dial in. Baskerville lost his no-doze and had an uncharacteristic .185 light and could not catch Lorne at the finish line. Dylan Daradics and Lisa Rastad were the two other semis finalists on Sunday. On Saturday's race, Lorne came out on the short end in the final round. He raced Glenn Fillingham Fillingham was right on his 13.08 dial in. Ridley had .04 at the tree but was off his dial in by almost a 1/10th of a second. Dave Rastad and Don Elgin were the two semi finalists on Saturday. With the two final round finishes Lorne moved into the top four before the waived raced come off the final standings. Lorne was in 7th place before the weekend started. F633 Chris Brandt Custer Wash 65 Chevelle 829 In Bike, Dan Tempel defeated confirmed 2004 champion Stewart Kienas by 2/1000ths of a second on Sunday with a .051 activated 8.903 (8.87 di)compared to a .030 rt., and a 11.316 (11.25 di). Jan Cook and Glenn Miller were the semi finalists. On Saturday, David LeBlanc took out Al Omond, when Al took way too much stripe and broke out by .011, despite a very bad .575 rt by LeBlanc. David's win moved him into 2nd place in the standings. 6002 Stewart Kienas Mission 89 Honda 892 In Jr Dragster, a big change in the standings developed with Julianne Mellof winning on Sunday and r/upping on Saturday. She moved from third to first place in the standings before the waived races come off the total. On Sunday Julianne defeated Hope Allen when she had a great .033 rt. The other semi finalist, Alisha Ehlers, made it three girls making it to the semi finals and finals. On Saturay Brandon Rachel got the win by .013 over the young Mellof driver. The driver had almost identical rt's but Brandon was .011 closer to his 11.54 dial in. 6252 Julianne Mellof Maple Ridge Spitzer 1996 742 Hod Rod completed their final weekend of the year, and Joe Fischer solidified his spot on top of the standings with wins both days. On Saturday, he used a great .006 rt and forced a big break out by Willy Miles to earn the victory. On Sunday, he caught Don Wilson at the stripe for a 2/100ths of a second victory. Don Wilson finished in second in the standings. 653 Joe Fischer BlaineWash 34Dodge 562
August 30, 2004 (A gallery from the weekend is here including some pit action from Rob Murphy's birthday activities in the Leo Grocock pit area). Saturday, Sunday single points event became a one day
affair as the rains hit on Saturday and not a single car went down track.
On Sunday the schedule had to be worked around the West Coast Pro Mods,
the Canada West Doorslammers and the Pro Street Shoot-out, so much like
a NHRA national event where the sportsman classes run when and if the
Pro get their program on track the brackets were the last to run their
program. It really is hard on all the bracket classes but it is the
only fair way to run the race, as the fans pay to see the feature On to the race! The race was deemed the "John Heida
Memorial event", and the feeling was that many teams would be trying
extra hard to win this one in honor of Heida. In
In Pro Bracket, a 50+ field saw Dodge hitter Chris Stone and Shawn Blair face off in the final round. Blair had a solid .005 light but was a tenth off his 10.79 dial and Stone with a .053 light ran within .035 of his 10.44 dial in. The margin of victory was .021 for Stone. In Sportsman, Phil Marvetz continued his hot streak with a win over Jim Reddington. That is Phil's third win in a row, and this one was against 28 (of his now rivals that are wondering, what they can do to take out the Green monster) sportsman competitors. They probably all hope he stays hot in two weeks time. Jim Reddington actually gave this one away, when he took .06 too much stripe. In the darkness it is a little harder to fender race though. The Bike winner was not Stewart Kienas, it was Dan Temple over Stu, in the final round. Stewart was snoozing at the tree, as a .167 won't win too many racers buddy. Dan had a .073 package in the victory.
In the specialty classes, Combo certainly had the most special meaning as that was Heida's favorite class. Steve Cozakos from Marysville defeated Richmond's Rick McKinney with as great .027 light and a right on 11.443 on a 11.44 dial. McKinney was forced under his 10.78 dial in as his .055 light was .03 behind. Super Gas was shortened to one race instead of the usual double header due to the rain but the winners cheque went to the usual suspect, Ed Hutchinson from Victoria. Dean Peterson had a much better light but was a tenth off the 9.90 number. Ed was right on the 9.90 and took a .07 stripe. Super Street was forced to run a single as well due to the weather. Sunshine Coast racer Dan Parsons defeated Washington's Bob Sims in the closest final round of the day. Parsons' had a .028 to Sims' .029 rt. Both drivers went under the 10.90 index, but Parsons' 10.888 to closer than the 10.882 by Sims'. A gallery from the weekend is here Doorslammer results are here and the Pro Mods are here. August 23, 2004 Not much to talk about at the Big Rig Weekend as the rains washed out most of the action. The Jrs. got to make a couple laps on Saturday but not trcuks went down track. Will find out if the race will be re-scheduled. Mission Raceway's Big Rig Wekend and the Jr. Dragster Nationals BIG RIGS ROLL INTO MISSION RACEWAY PARK
A special match race will pit Canada's fastest diesel truck, the 1,000-horsepower

Mission Raceway final Weekend for "Team Mission representatives" (photos by Larry Pfister and Dean Murdoch) August 9, 2004 The Final chance.......For driver to make Team Mission the the Summit ET finals hosted by Mission Raceway this weekend. Both the ROC drivers and the top 11-15 were driving their butts off in the last attempt to represent the host track. In Super Pro, the top four (ROC) prior to this weekend's double header stayed true to form as Martin Rachel, Warren Jacobson Peter Bereditsch and Bill Grover are racing for a chance to head to Pomona. Martin Rachel went on to win Sunday to go along with a runner-up Saturday. Mantel with the runner-up on Sunday, just snuck into the field for 'Team Mission".
Here are the top 15 in Super Pro: 6639 Martin Rachel 752 In Pro Bracket........Bruce Flodin had such a lead heading into the final day Sunday (he won on Saturday) standings that even a first round defeat did not keep him from the #1 spot for "Team Mission". The rest of the ROC drivers all came from outside the top four for their chance to race at Pomona. Cory Ferguson won on Sunday to put him in third place from seventh heading into Sunday's 57 car elimination's. Shawn Blair was R/U on Sunday and he moved up from 5th place to second in the standings. Jamie Roth was the other clutch hitter on Sunday as his semi final finish was just enough to get him the final spot in the ROC field. He just inched ahead of Ray Bollinger who had an untimely first round exit. Chris Stone was the other driver who was edged out of ROC. He went to the third round, but needed a fourth round finish to keep his spot. Here is the top 17 in Pro Bracket after Sunday.
6227 Bruce Flodin Abbotsford 95 Dodge 683 Sportsman.................... Chris Brandt even though getting beat up on by Bobby Ehlers twice on the weekend, was such a dominant driver, that he kept his #1 spot for ROC. Glenn Fillingham is #2 in ROC despite a first round exit on Sunday. Philip Marvetz looks to be peaking at the right time, as he won both races on the weekend and jumped from way back in the pack to the third spot in the standings. Momentum means everything and could be a threat at the finals. Phil defeated "SpeedZone's" Pat Harden on Saturday and Bobby Ehlers on Sunday in the final rounds. The runner-ups by both those competitors guaranteed them spots in the ET finals in the Sportsman class. Here is the top 16 in Sportsman.
Bobby Ehlers (left) was runner-up in Sportsman. Here ihe is on a 1/4 round bye run. Phil Marvetz was the winner both days over the weekend in his Green Duster. He, he took out Paul Korosec in the 1/4's. F633 Chris Brandt Custer Wash 65 Chevelle 728 In Bike/Sled......... Stu Kienas could have stayed in Russia our where ever he was earlier this season and still stayed #1 as he had a 200 point lead in Bike/Sled. The only riders with a chance on Sunday to move into the ROC were Glenn Miller and Al Omond, but both needed to reach the final round to do it as 4th place member Anita Cunningham (who was R/U on Saturday) was a first round loser on Sunday. They raced each other in round one and Al was the winner there, but he only got to round two making the standings the same as Saturday. On Saturday, Dan Tempel was the winner but was too far back to move into the top four. Here is the top 10 in Bike/ Sled.
