Top Fuel qualifying at Houston was very similar to Gainesville in round one, in that it was run on a new surface, and the cars had trouble making a full pass. It was no problem in the evening session as Brandon Bernstein and seven other cars ran in the 4.50's. The Prince leads with a stout 4.516 and is followed by one of the Kalitta cars, Doug, who went 4.533. TJ Zizzo rounds out the bottom of the top 16 of 20 cars that made laps. Not in the field as of yet is Scott Kalitta, Rhonda Hartman, Scott Weis and Mitch King Here is the field after two rounds.

Top Fuel Brandon Bernstein, Left lane, .099 4.695 271.79 def. Clay Millican,.042 5.032 238.81

Top Fuel Wrap up-

Brandon Bernstein is making Top Fuel at least a two car race with his second win of the year. At the start of the season, Brandon was probably picked by most pundits to be in the 4-6 range of favorites to win the series in 2004. I am included in that great prognostigation. A couple Kalittas, Tony Shoe and Larry Dixon were in front of the Bud Prince. The kid and the team is throwing sand in our faces now. Tim and Kim Richards have a handle on the combination. He qualified on top on the 20 car field and defeated John Smith, Cory Mac, and Scott Kalitta before facing IHRA champ Clay Millican in the final round.
