July 27, 2008 Top Alcohol qualifying completed Saturday night with Gregg Lawrence (TAD) and Tim Nemeth (TAFC) leading the way in their respective classes. Qualifying numbers (from memory, forgot the TA sheet)
TAFC
"B" 1. Bill Edwards Jr. 5.61
In Nostalgia Funny, the winningest driver in the NFCA sits #1 with two 5.8 blasts, the best being a 5.863/238 mph shot in the first qualifier. Five drivers wound up in the 5 second zone, a NFCA record for an 8 car field. Mike Grekyl ran his first "5", a out of the trailer eye dropping 5.88 making him the third quickest driver in class history. Lee Paul Jennings ran a career best 5.94, Kris Krabill went into the "5's" for the first time, a 5.98 at the early top speed mark of 239.17 mph. Terry Capp rounded out the five second performers with back to back 5.99's. Andy Beauchemin ran a career best wheels up 6.19/234 in the Tachman Mustang. Mark Sanders' best was a 6.20 despite his three weeks earlier 6.03 in testing. He will likely bump up his weekend best come Sunday noon. Jay Mageau struggled in his two laps, with a 7.54 best with an all new combination. If Sunday is anything like Saturday, the day will be unbelievable. First round pairings are Austin vs Capp in an epic matchup. Grekyl vs Beauchemin, Jennings vs Sanders which will be closer than the numbers show and Krabill vs Mageau. 1. Bucky Austin 5.863/238.47 2. Mike Grekyl 5.889/236.34
3. Lee Paul Jennings 5.941/213.42 4. Kris Krabill 5.985/239.17 5. Terry Capp 5.999/232.61
6. Andy Beauchemin 6.19/234.07 7. Mark Sanders 6.201/225.84 8. Jay Mageau 7.549/130.73
For the Nitro Harleys, 13 bikes tried for the eight bike field and it was one of the best showings in recent memory. The numbers will be posted sunday night, but the order ranged from a 6.6 #1 effort to a 7.09 rounding out the top eight. One rider (not sure the name) had a bad explosion just off the hit. The reason flak jackets are worn.
July 25, 2008 Friday photo highlights Most of Friday's photos are centered around the debut of Twig Zeigler and the Pizza Haven Funny Car. His first lap in three decades as he works toward his re-licensing. The first shot was a beauty, with a wheels up 1.0 60 foot and an early shut off (250 feet) 10 second lap. The car was hopped up on its maiden voyage.
Other rides getting ready for the funny car shootout included Mark Sanders and 'Mr Explosive', Andy Beauchemin in the 'Tachman' and 2007 winner Terry Capp in the 'Bubble up'. Next year, the Hodgeson team will debut the second car, the legendary "Hawaiian.
Here are the expected entries for the Nostalgia Funny Cars

Mission Open shaping up
to be AWESOME!! Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car should take up right where it left off last year when Terry Capp quite simply destroyed the record books. With a night session this time around look for those marks to fall again. You can bet Bucky Austin (photo) will have something more to say this year than last as The Northwest Hitter has gone on to become the dominant car in the category. Toss in a dozen or so more including some new pieces such as Twig Zeigler's Plymouth and the pits are gonna be turned into a nitro fiberglass forest! More nitro in the form of the two wheel variety will also make for an amazing show. Lead by perennial champion Ron Houneit and the new sensation Damian Cownden of Victoria, winner of the Edmonton national event earlier this month and the potential of seeing the Top Fuel Harleys in the low six second zone at possibly 220 mph is high indeed! A full field of eight bikes will make this more than just a warm up for the big CMDRA race here August 9/10. The alky cars always put on a show here, racing families like the Sitkos of Edmonton, the Parkers of Oregon, and a bunch more locals layin down some great runs. Of note the IHBA nostalgia alky floppers will not be here this year. Then there is Pro Street, which for 2008 has record-breaking potential like never before. Not since the days of Braid and Murray has a street car race been more anticipated than this one. The quickest and fastest street cars the northwest has ever known are all coming out for the first time in a long time. Garrett Richards and the gang from TPR will be here in the world's fastest pickup truck, Brian Lane who laid down an unofficial 6.49 here just one month ago, Draggin Don Murray in his stout new turbo Corvette, Trevor Wilms in a new 706 inch nitrous '04 Corvette, Rash Dhaliwal looks to have the new alky system in his Mustang sorted out with some six second passes a few weeks ago, and we hear rumors that Dal Sangha's newly skinned Ford may also show. Will the new Moznik Camino be here? Will Dale Pedersen bring that awesome Buick down from the great white north? Will any of the other US cars make an appearance? Whatever happens this will be the BIG ONE for street cars in the northwest for 2008. Toss in all the door cars and dragsters in Top Comp, Stock/SS combo and a bunch more NHRA and bracket troops and you have the makings of a classic summer weekend at MRP. Bring your sunscreen, bring your deet, bring your cooler and have some fun at the biggest National Open in Mission history! Admission/Race Prices
