First and Second Round recaps

Every West Coast car except Kyle Siepel advances. The day was rained out until 2:00 central. I believe the second round has all the top qualifiers advancing, Coughlin, Westcott, Jenkins, Wann, Houser, Raybourn, Kelley, Hess, Barton, Pancake, and Rayburn. Couglin has the second round bye. In round two, Coughlin, Westcott, Raybourn, Jenkins, Houser and Barton all won.

Sept. 2, 2004 Mopar Hemi Shootout Indy Thursday

West coast cars have five of the top six spots in the field so far, with Team Ogburn taking #1, 3, and 4. All seven West coast cars are qualified for Super Stock as well. Jeg Coughlin is driving Harry Hoolton's car and Steve Wann is driving Michael Ogburn's. Niether driver got their entry in on time to compete at Indy. Chuck Rayburn is driving a new car from Phil Mandella and Houser is in the DeFrank car. Dave Raybourn only has one of his cars there and I believe it has Paneela power under the hood. Jason Line is in Randy Hopkins car and Bob Mazzolini has an all new car with Holton Power. Not sure who's ride Kyle Siepel has.

Sportsman results from Acton Montana's first ever Lucas Oil event:

225+ class and sportsman cars (not including any brackets) showed up for the first ever divisional race at Intermountain Motorsports Park, in Acton Montana. Close to 50 Division five cars, and 30 Division seven cars were included in the mix in what will probably be a multi division event in the fututre the large crowd will probably ensure this event staying in what is the long travel event in the division. In Comp, Jeff Lane pulled to within 22 points of leader Gary Anderson who skipped this race.

NHRA National Open Results North Central Motorsport Park
July 31st - Aug 1st, 2004

140 competitors were on hand the North Central Canadian National Open. 28 the cars were Juniors. A number of the titles were still wide open and the closest one was the Top Comp National Open crown. John Evans in the Lucas Oil/SpeedZone Magazine/River City Nissan Dragster lead Randy Johnson by 10 point heading to the final race of the year. This one had all the drama, as both of the competitors made it to the final round. It was a winner take all final, and Johnson was very hot. He won the last two Top Comp races and was a semi finalist at the one prior to those two. Evans won the first race and was r/u to Johnson and the last race. Johnson had a near perfect .006 light forcing John to take a break out stripe by 7/1000ths of a second. A great final, but John does go away disappointed, after leading the points for the first five races of the series. Shawn Cowie was the #1 Qualifier in Top Comp and fastest car of the weekend with a 6.83@200.56.

Super Comp saw Cory Thompson take the title despite losing to Ashley Ziarko at PG. He also lost to her at Ashcroft at the first Open event, but the two runner-ups and a win at Mission was enough to give him the title. Ed Hutchison capped off the Super Gas title with another win at Prince George. He defeated Brian Bond in the final round.

In Super Street, the only way Ray Carlson could take the title was to win the race, and that is just what he did. He defeated Brian Engelking in the final round, which put Brian into second place in the final standings.

John Young solidified his lead in Super Pro and by winning the race over Al Quigley.
