The Division champs did not fair to well this weekend at Boise, as all but three went out in the opening round of elimination's. In Comp, defending Division and event champ Adam Bowdish, lost in the semis to event R/U Clint Sallee in his 6.70(factored) B/D. Sallee was then defeated by 2003 (and the SpeedZone pick for 2004 World champ) Dean Carter. Carter wasn't even the quickest A/ND on the property, when JD Zink ran an unfactored 7.121 (6.914 factored). The driving ability of Carter and the consistency of the car gives the team an overall package that seems to be unstoppable. Jirka Kaplan had a surprisingly poor showing at Boise. With the cool conditions I was thinking the Brad's Automotive tuned Altered would rip the record books for the second consecutive year. Maybe he is saving it for Mission in 17 days.

In Top Comp, door cars reigned supreme as Todd Horner got his second win in the dragster dominated class. He took out Brian Preszler in the final round and also won best appearing car to top off the weekend. Local John Evans had the best result for a Canadian driver, as he went to the fourth round before getting the short end of the win light.

Super Stock saw Division 5 competitor Jim Weakland (SS/GA) make the trek from Colorado and take home the Wally over Canadian Grant Singer SS/CM) from Regina Saskatchewan. Another Saskatchewan driver, the most recognized one, Abe Loewen, lost in the semis to Weakland. That would have been cool to see a couple from Sask. make the final round. Has that ever happened?

Stock winner was no surprise, as Jody Lang got his third consecutive victory here in the spud state. Californian Don Keen was this year's victim. Local Cory Thompson had his best qualifying effort, when he went .76 under in the bright yellow 69 Firebird He was a first round casualty though. Division 6 champion Brad Plourd was a second round runner up.

Adam Drzayich finally got a well deserved win in Super Comp. The likable Drzayich clan member got by division 5's Ed Olpin . Adam ran right on the 9.20 number and took a 4/1000ths stripe (8 inches). The more famous family member, dad Nick did not run in Top Comp this weekend. He is probably saving the car for more Pro Stock events in 2004. Way to go Adam. Hope you still got that SpeedZone decal on the car. SpeedZone Sponsored Cory Thompson was a first round runner-up.

Super Gas winner was Division 6 hitter Rodney Lee, from Portland. He defeated one of the top S Gas competitors in the division, Wayne Linder Jr. with a dead on 10.20. Linder was .008 under the 10.20 index. Chad Barcley was the canuck who went the furthest, as he went to the fourth round before losing to Dave Kelly. Marv Wiebe was a third round casualty. Divison Champ Stefan Kondolay was a first round victim.

In Super Street, John Keppinger got his first ever Super class win. A former Pro champion at this event he ran right on the 11.20 dial to come from behind and defeat Mike Schoenfield. Mission's Warren Jacobson and Langley's Steve Lowe both went out in Round two.

Kerker Motorcycle was not a very well represented class as only 6 bikes competed on Sunday. Home town boy, Joe Collette defeated 2003 division champ Steve Miller in the final round.

April 16, 2004 - Race #1 of the Division 6 seven race series goes this weekend at Boise's Firebird Raceway. No Top Alcohol car at this event which still escapes any reasonable logic for a track that prides itself on supporting the sportsman racers. While I digress, it is notable that they are showcasing exhibition top fuel cars to give the spectators a pretty show. Top Comp this weekend, runs its first ever 48 car qualified field, and I expect 40-48 cars to qualify for the race. Comp should see 20 competitors and Super Stock will have in the neighborhood of 35 vehicles, notably absent will be the Super Stock Hemis, as they are readying themselves for the Cajun Nationals next weekend and the West Coast Hemi Shoot-out at Mission in May. Along with regular elimination's, every event this season will have a Doorslammer Top Sportsman Shoot-out and a super series shoot-out Friday and Saturday nights. Stay tuned right here for all the action from Boise.
