March 16, 2004 Monday at Houston is not what most racers and certainly not the fans wanted as Division four may have to think about their early season scheduling. While it is nice that no National event conflict weith original scheduling when the event had to run on a different date everyone loses. I venture to gues that the spectator count was not very good for Monday's completion. Here is the winners and runner-ups in the sportsman classes from Monday's final eliminations.

Phoenis and Orlando results are here. Houston was rained out and will be run tomorrow.

March 14, 2004 Lucas Oil finals. (Scroll down for Orlando) Houston was rescheduled for tomorrow as the rain struck and stayed around for most of the day. At Phoenix, Carter's run ended in round two in Comp when Fred Gross took him out. His fortune carried through into the final round where he faced surprise finalist Scott McClay (#18 qualifier). McClay cut down the tree all day long and took advantage of other racers misfortune to get to the final never having to run any quicker than the maximum potential of his C/ED (.350 under). Reaction time was not enough for McClay as he cut a great .013 light in the final round but could not catch the consistent .5 under ride driven by Gross. Fred also cut a decent light (.044) in the final round and wasn't caught before the finish line. No Division 6 car went past the second round in Comp.

In Super Stock, Jody Lang (left lane) sand bagged his way through qualifying and ran 3/10ths quicker in elimination's where he faced Kyle Seipel in the final round. But, the other Lang, could not continue the winning streak for the Lang family, and Seipel took the win by .015.

Stock came down to two Division 7 2003 top ten finishers, Ken Etter and Curtis Coulter. Etter had .o4 lights and better throughout elimination's including a perfect light in round four. But in the final he was too quick and fouled away his chance, when he went .008 red, giving the win to Curtis Coulter. Brad Plourd made it to the third round where he lost to Bill Nelson.

Lucas Oil Phoenix Friday Photo Highlights Mark King and Rich Carlson are at Phoenix this weekend for Division 7's first race of the year. Not much good news to report from friday's time trial and qualifying as Ed Sigmon ended Friday's efforts when he crashed and the fuel cell exploded. The track had a three foot square patch burned in it so the had to do repairs and that ended Friday's runs in the early afternoon.

Comp and Stock event recap

Sportsman winners circle includes (Top, Clockwise from left), Div 7 director Charlie Neilson, David Rampy, Toby Lang, Forrest Lucas, Ray Carlson, Rod Fuller and Ken Serpan

3:30pm Division six has dominated Stock for the last four national events with Jody Lang (left), Brad Plourd and Toby Lang winning the last two of 2003 and the first race of 2004. THe three of those hitters has a chance to win again as all three went to the latter rounds. Brad went out in rd 4 to Toby Lang and then Jody lost in round five. That left Toby (the Winternationals winner) to take the win. He got the win when Micci Walter was just a little to anxious at the tree. In Comp, Dean Carter was looking for a little bit of history if could have defeated another one of the top hitters in Comp David Rampy. Rampy left first but Carter was just a tick to quick on the draw, going .007 red giving Rampy the win. Rampy left with a .0114 light and would have been very tough as both cars were running .500 under or more all day. Rampy went into the final without an index hit though, so the edge was in Rampy's court.

Brad Plourd chases down David Rampy

Toby Lang defeats Cal Method.

1:00pm March 7, 2004 Comp Eliminator is down to the semi finals and Dean Carter is still living charmed life. He has not had a hard index hit yet and it is paying off as he defeated #1 qualifier Mike Johnson in the 1/4's . Carter raced Tony Stephenson in round four and ran his best of the weekend a 7.05 to go to his fourth final in a row (it is actually his fifth in a row counting the Las Vegas Divisional last year which he won as well). Steve Wilmoth faced David Rampy in the other semi and Wilmoth red lit his chance away giving Rampy a free ride to the final round. Can Carter get his fourth win in five consecutive event finals. That would have to be some sort of sportsman or at least a comp record. In Stock, The semi finals are set and a Lang and a Waldo are both in. Brad Plourd lost to Toby Lang in round four Jody had a bye in rd four and lost in the fifth. Toby won in round five as did Gary Waldo and Jody Lang lost out to Micci Walter. In the semi finals Waldo takes on Walter and Toby goes to his second final in a row.

March 6, 2004 PM Class eliminations in Stock took place on Saturday and two rounds of eliminations in Comp. In Stock Class, Brad Plourd, Toby Lang, Eric Waldo, Jim Waldo, Gary Waldo, Bill Kost and Steve Wann all won class and are regular North West Competitors. First round of Stock goes Sunday Morning. In Comp, World #1 Dean Carter (left) is going to the 1/4's and takes on #1 qualifier Mike Johnson. Adam Bowdish faces David Rampy, Steve Wilmoth gets Scott Hedlund and finally, Lou Fikko faces Tony Stephenson.

Brad Plourd won Class and is one of the favorites in elim's on Sunday.

Cal Method lost in the final of F/SA class elims's but should go to the late rounds on Sunday.

Darrin Grossi won A/SA class against "first in the nine's" Bobby De'Armond

Jody is another class winner and favorite for elim's on Sunday.

March 6, 2004 AM Friday qualifying at the 20th annual CSK Nationals here in Phoenix got of to a slow start on Friday as overnight rains delayed qualifying until around noon. Once it started the day turned into a pretty day one of qualifying. In Comp the evening session was the most productive as a number of cars found another .05 as the weather cooled and the corrected air was close to actual elevation for the facility. Michael Johnson wound up #1 qualifier with a 60plus under 8.902. Tom Mettler in his cool PS Truck went quicker here than at Pomona a sits #2 with a 7.489.
