Final team standings
Results for the sportsman classes in regular eliminations are underway, and Anthony Castillo (two side by side photos above) is the closest watched competitor, as he has a chance to win the Super Comp world title if he can do well at his last two National events. At Chicago, he is well on his way, as he has gone to the fourth round. Mark Faul (above) has also gone to the fourth round. All the results are at Drag Race Central and NHRA.com Sept. 26, 2003 Updates from Division director Mike Rice. 10:30 eastern For any of you interested in what's up with the Jeg's
Allstars in Chicago, we're racing right now. A beautiful day A two car incident also happened with Rock Haas taking a left turn past the finish line in his dragster (from the right lane) going upside down and tagging the wall. In an attempt to avoid Haas, Bob Phillips turned hard right and also ended up upside down and into the right wall. Fortunately both drivers are OK.
(DJ Januzzi above, had to thrash to make round one of reg elims. He won there but lost in round one of the Allstars) After an all evening thrash, DJ Jannuzzi picked up a round one win this morning (running an on and off the throttle 10.90). A huge thanks goes out to Dick VanderMeer, Kenny Heard, Anthony Castillo, Terry Anderson, and the Drzayich clan for helping get the new (borrowed from Jim Hughes) bullet in the car and re-plumbed and re-wired.
Ken Heard In the Mustang goes out early in the allstar nd reg. elims. Jody Lang lost in round one of the Allstar race and third round on reg elims.
Dick Vandermeer above, as blocker lost in round one Terry Anderson and Jody Lang also picked up round one wins this morning. Heard lost in round one. Mark Faul wins round one in SC, but loses in SS. Toby Lang lost to David Rampy in Stock. Jeg's Allstars competition will take place Saturday and I'll try to keep everyone updated on the results. If I'm slacking (which is normal), make sure to check out the results at NHRA.com or Drag Race Central. 2.19 pm eastern It's raining again!!! Started about 12:30 and continues until??? Second session of TA cars is now off for today so the ladder is set for the Allstars. Before the rains came, Cofini rips off a career best 5.42 to land in the number six slot (behind five A/F cars and followed by three more). Also puts him in the number two spot for the Allstars, which aligns him on the ladder against defending champ Marty Thacker. Should be a dandy tomorrow morning. Bucky runs 5.67 in a weak TAFC session. With the weather being what it was we were hoping for big numbers, put the racers and track didn't produce. Bucky currently sits number five, but number three in the Allstars and will take on Tate Branch in round one tomorrow morning. Gary Anderson did get to run before the rains came in the middle of round two of Comp qualifying, but did not improve on yesterday's numbers. Hope to finish second Comp session upon returning to racing before going directly into the Pro's. |
